ポルトガル代表は30日、カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)欧州予選グループA第3節でルクセンブルク代表と対戦し、3-1で勝利した。
前節のセルビア代表戦を1-1のドローで終えたポルトガルは、その試合から先発メンバーを5人変更。ブルーノ・フェルナンデスやダニーロ、セルジオ・オリベイラらに代えてフェリックスやレナト・サンチェス、ネヴェスが先発で起用された。
C・ロナウドを最前線に据えた[4-2-3-1]で試合に臨んだポルトガルは、 立ち上がりからボールを保持するもソリッドな守備を見せる相手を崩せず、なかなかシュートまで持ち込むことができない。
それでもポルトガルは、24分にボックス左横で獲得したFKからC・ロナウドが直接FKでゴールに迫ると、29分にも右サイドをオーバーラップしたカンセロの折り返しからレナト・サンチェスがダイレクトシュートを放ったが、共にシュートはGKモリスのセーブに阻まれた。
先制点の遠いポルトガルは、30分にセットプレーの二次攻撃から失点する。左CKのこぼれ球をチャーノットが右に展開すると、これを受けたシナニのクロスをゴール前に走り込んだロドリゲスがダイビングヘッドで流し込んだ。
試合は0-1のまま前半アディショナルタイムに突入。このまま終了かと思われたが、ポルトガルはアディショナルタイム2分に試合を振り出しに戻す。右CKのこぼれ球から二次攻撃を仕掛けるとボックス左付近でパスを受けたペドロ・ネトのクロスをゴール前のジョタがヘディングで決めた。
同点で迎えた後半、再びスコアを動かしたのはポルトガルだった。50分、中央をドリブルで持ち上がったC・ロナウドが右サイドに展開すると、これを受けたカンセロがボックス右手前まで切り込みクロスを供給。最後はゴール前まで上がったC・ロナウドが右足ボレーでゴールネットを揺らした。
勝ち越したポルトガルは、52分にもオーバーラップしたメンデスがボックス左まで切り込みシュート。さらに59分には、左CKからジョタがヘディングシュートを放ったが、これはクロスバーを叩いた。
後半の主導権を握ったポルトガルは、71分にピンチを迎える。バイタルエリア右でFKを与えると、セバスティアン・ティルの直接FKが枠を捉えたが、これはGKアントニー・ロペスが弾き出し、難を逃れた。
守護神の好守に応えたいポルトガルは80分、ペドロ・ネトの左CKをニアに走り込んだパリーニャがヘディングで流し込み、試合を決定づける3点目を奪取。
試合終盤にはルクセンブルクのチャーノットがこの試合2枚目のイエローカードで退場となるなど、数的優位を得たポルトガルがそのまま逆転勝利を飾り、今予選2勝目を挙げている。
