小さすぎるすねあて…覚醒したキャルバート=ルーウィンがファンの疑問に言及

エバートンに所属するイングランド代表FWドミニク・キャルバート=ルーウィンが自身のすねあてについて言及した。

イングランド代表は25日、カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)欧州予選グループI第1節でサンマリノ代表と対戦し5-0で大勝した。最前線で起用されたキャルバート=ルーウィンは2ゴールの活躍を見せたが、ゴールだけでなく、すねあてのサイズも大きな話題になっていた。

キャルバート=ルーウィンがつけていたすねあては明らかに小さく、すね全体を守ることができていない。他の選手たちと比べても小さく、キャルバート=ルーウィンが187cmと長身のため、かなりその小ささが目立っている。また、昔の写真を見る限りでは、より一層すねあてが小さくなっている状況だ。

エバートンでも小さめのすねあてを使っていたキャルバート=ルーウィンだが、代表戦での反響が大きかったこともあり、自身のツイッターでこの件について言及。

「疑問に思っている人のために...これが僕のすねあてに使用するものです」というキャプションとともに“カスタードクリーム”というイギリスで人気のビスケットの画像を冗談めいて投稿した。

すねあてのエピソードで言えば、アストン・ビラに所属するMFジャック・グリーリッシュは迷信で子供用のすねあてを常用していることを過去に明かしている。今回はイングランド代表に招集されていないが、2人が揃えば、イングランド代表には小さなすねあてをつけた選手が2人いることになる。

恐らくキャルバート=ルーウィンも子供用のすねあてを使っているものとみられるが、今季はキャリア最高のシーズンを送っており、今のところその効果は出ているようだ。

28日に行われたアルバニア代表では出番のなかったキャルバート=ルーウィンだが、31日に行われるポーランド戦では再び小さすぎるすねあての出番がくるだろうか。

北中米W杯の欧州予選組み合わせ決定! 12カ国+POの4カ国が出場権獲得、来年3月からスタート【2026年北中米W杯欧州予選】
