元イングランド代表DFのアシュリー・コール氏はイングランド代表DFトレント・アレクサンダー=アーノルドの起用ポジションに疑問を抱いているようだ。イギリス『デイリー・メール』が伝えている。

イングランドは11日に開催されたUEFAネーションズリーグで、FIFAランキング1位のベルギー代表と対戦。前半はFWロメル・ルカクにPKを決められ、リードされる苦しい展開だったが、ハーフタイム前にFWマーカス・ラッシュフォードのPKで追いつくと、後半に入りMFメイソン・マウントのゴールで逆転に成功した。その後は逃げ切り、大きな勝利を手にしている。

アレクサンダー=アーノルドはこの試合で、[3-4-2-1]の右ウィングバックとして起用された。しかし、リバプールでこれまで公式戦138試合に出場し、8ゴール36アシストを記録している輝きはあまり見られず、79分にDFリース・ジェームズと交代。逆転ゴールに繋がるクロスを放った以外に大きな見せ場はなく、ベンチに下がっている。

現役時代にイングランド代表不動の左サイドバックとして107試合に出場したA・コール氏はイギリス『スカイ・スポーツ』で、アレクサンダー=アーノルドの右ウィングバック起用を決断したガレス・サウスゲート監督の采配に疑問を投げかけた。

「私は彼がウィングバックとしてプレーする姿は見たくない。彼はもっと深い位置からプレーをスタートさせて、(相手の)エリアに入っていくのに適している」

「彼がスペースに入ってくれば、クロスやパスなどで(プレーの)幅を出せるようになるだろう。(今日の試合で)彼は相手の左ウィングバックを追いかけ、後ろに入ろうとしていたが、それは適した仕事ではないと思う」

昨シーズンのプレミアリーグを制したリバプールにおいて、攻撃面で大きな貢献度を誇ったアレクサンダー=アーノルド。代表で同じ活躍ができるかどうかはサウスゲート監督の起用法にかかっていると言えるだろう

5億円以上の強盗、被害者に元イングランド代表DFがいたことが判明

北中米W杯の欧州予選組み合わせ決定! 12カ国+POの4カ国が出場権獲得、来年3月からスタート【2026年北中米W杯欧州予選】
