昨シーズン限りで現役を引退した元スペイン代表FWダビド・ビジャが、引退を決断した理由について改めて語った。イギリス『BBC』が伝えた。
スポルティング・ヒホンの下部組織で育ったビジャは、キャリア最後の地に日本を選択。ヴィッセル神戸で1シーズンプレーし、38歳で現役を引退した。
クラブキャリアでは、スポルティング・ヒホンに始まり、レアル・サラゴサ、バレンシア、バルセロナ、アトレティコ・マドリー、ニューヨーク・シティFC、メルボルン・シティと日本を含め4カ国でプレー。数多くのタイトルを獲得した。
また、スペイン代表としても98試合に出場し59ゴールを記録。2010年の南アフリカ・ワールドカップで優勝したほか、2008年のユーロでも優勝を経験。名実ともにレジェンドとしてサッカー史に名を残すストライカーだった。
神戸でも、キャリア最後のタイトルとなる天皇杯を制し、15個目のチームタイトルを獲得したビジャ。インタビューでは、引退を決断した理由について改めて口にした。
「過去2年間で、僕は3、4回負傷し、チームを3週間離れることがあった。サッカーではなく、他の場所について考え始めていたのだと思う」
「明らかにプレーできないことに喪失感を覚えるだろう。でも、とても満足しているんだ。別の方法で、サッカーに貢献しようとするよ」

『DAZN』がラ・リーガの放映権を5年間延長! 2027-28シーズンまで配信決定

ベッカムに並ぶ“イケメン”…日韓W杯で一大ブームとなったイルハンはすっかり“イケオジ”に

「昔も今も変わらない」「2人とも大好き」引退の田中順也がモデルの妻・宇井愛美さんとの結婚10周年を祝う「本当にありがとう」

イニエスタの甥っ子がキュート!スペインの母の日に“母デビュー”の姉にエール
