“ビーガン・ダイエット”とはベジタリアンの一種の中でも特に厳密なものを差し、一切の動物性食物を摂取しないという食事スタイルだ。近年では大きな広がりを見せており、アーセナルDFエクトル・ベジェリンやF1レジェンドのルイス・ハミルトン、テニススターのビーナス・ウィリアムスなど超一流のスポーツ選手も取り入れている。
そして、ユナイテッドで巻き返しを誓うスモーリングもその一人。完全な菜食主義を取り入れたスモーリングは肉、魚、卵、乳製品をシャットアウトしており、コンディション調整に大きな改善がもたらされたと感じているようだ。
「僕らはハムストリングのテストをしたんだけど、僕は前回のテストから(筋肉量が)35%増加したよ。バイク(トレーニング)で僕はパワーアップしたんだ。日に日に強くなっていて、良い結果を出しているよ」
「ビーガンになる前でさえ、赤身の肉を切り分ける方法で腱炎と試合後のリカバリーが大幅に改善された。かなりの数の症状があったんだけど、完全にビーガンになってからは全く感じないよ」

「高価な食べ物はない」ギネス記録樹立、C・ロナウドのあの肉体の秘訣を専属シェフが明かす
