元イングランド代表のデイビッド・ベッカム氏が、サルフォード・シティの株の10%を保有することが分かった。イギリス『BBC』が伝えている。
サルフォードは現在イングランド5部にあたるナショナルリーグに所属する、いわゆるスモールクラブだ。だが、2014年3月にマンチェスター・ユナイテッドの92年デビュー組である、ライアン・ギグス、ギャリーとフィルのネヴィル兄弟、ポール・スコールズ、ニッキー・バットらが同クラブの株をそれぞれ10%ずつ購入したことで、今ではイングランド国内で大きな人気を得ている。
“クラスオブ92”と呼ばれる彼らの中でただ一人、ベッカムだけがこれまでサルフォードの株式保有に参画していなかったが、このたび、元スリーライオンズの貴公子も同じように株の10%を買収することになり、全6人が同クラブの株式保有者となった。
これで赤い悪魔の92年デビュー組が合わせて60%の株式を保有することになった。残りの40%は、バレンシアのオーナーも務めるシンガポールの起業家ピーター・リム氏が保持している。
2020年からメジャー・リーグ・サッカー(MLS)参入が決まっている新設クラブのインテル・マイアミのオーナーでもあるベッカム氏は、今回のサルフォードの株式保有について以下のようにコメントしている。
「サルフォード・シティは短い期間に多くの成功を収めてきた。ファンも素晴らしいし、なにより、また再びサルフォードで過ごすことができて私自身とてもエキサイトしているんだ」

ロナウドが日韓W杯での“大五郎カット”を謝罪、奇抜な髪型の裏事情とは?

「背が高いのは?」ベッカムと17歳の三男クルスが“身長勝負” !背伸びした父は自信満々に「俺だな」

「絶対に謝らない」ハーランド父に復讐したロイ・キーンが“報復”タックルを否定

「高価な食べ物はない」ギネス記録樹立、C・ロナウドのあの肉体の秘訣を専属シェフが明かす
