▽日本代表は11日、オーストラリアのドックランズ・スタジアムでロシア・ワールドカップ(W杯)アジア最終予選の第4戦、オーストラリア代表戦に臨む。グループ最大のライバルであり、アジアで最も力があると見込まれるオーストラリア相手に、しっかりと結果を残したいところだ。
◆最強のライバル・オーストラリア
▽ここまで3試合を終え、2勝1分けの勝ち点7でグループB首位に立つオーストラリア。初戦でイラク代表、2戦目で日本が敗れたUAE代表に勝利し連勝でスタートすると、今月6日に行われた第3戦はアウェイでの2位・サウジアラビア代表戦で2-2と引き分けた。
▽結果だけを見れば無敗で首位に立っているものの、どの試合も圧倒していたわけではなく、苦戦するシーンもあったが、力は1つ抜け出ている印象がある。ホームでの日本戦と考えれば、勝利を目指し、全力を懸けて臨んでくることは間違いない。
