ギリシャ代表を率い、ユーロ2012でベスト8、ブラジル・ワールドカップでベスト16と実績を残したサントス監督は、2014年に就任したポルトガル代表ではユーロ2016で母国を初優勝に導いた。
カタールW杯後の2022年12月、ポーランド代表の指揮官に就任したサントス監督だったが、ユーロ2024予選では5試合を終えて2勝3敗の4位と振るわず解任となってしまった。
後任にはエクストラクラサ(ポーランド1部)のラクフ・チェンストホヴァを指揮していたマレク・パプシュン氏(49)、2018年までポーランド代表を指揮したアダム・ナバウカ氏(65)の名前が挙がっている。
