2010年大会以来のワールドカップ(W杯)制覇を目指して、カタールの地に乗り込んだスペイン。グループステージでは日本代表に次ぐ2位通過に終わったが、ラウンド16に駒を進め、6日にモロッコ代表と対戦した。
そのモロッコ戦でも卓越した繋ぎで主導権を握っていったが、今大会を通じて躍進が印象的な相手に延長戦を含め、あとひと押しが足りない展開が続くと、PK戦に。3人目までに失敗が続き、16強敗退が決まった。
今大会の全4試合に先発したブスケッツは試合後、「この大会にい続けたかった」と悔しさを滲ませながら、試合を振り返っている。

「99%の希望を失った」スペインの名医がガビの負傷に言及「劇的な状況になってしまう」、原因は「選手の試合数」

「素晴らしい!!」「すごい女王様」W杯で話題のクロアチア美女サポーターが再び試合観戦! 手がけた各国国旗の水着が話題に「いいね!」「どこで買える?」

21世紀の出場試合数ランキング発表! 首位は1145試合のC・ロナウド、トップ10に日本人選手がランクイン
