スペイン代表として通算131試合の出場経験を持つイニエスタ。スペインの黄金世代の中心選手でもあり、4度のW杯に出場。2010年の南アフリカW杯では、決勝の延長戦でトロフィーをもたらす決勝ゴールも決めていた。

カタールW杯では、『スペイン放送協会(RTVE)』のコメンテーターとして参加しているイニエスタだが、23日に自身のSNSを更新。「スペイン代表のW杯初戦を家族で満喫。大勝利」と綴り、妻のアンナ・オルティスさんや4人の子供たちとともにスタンドで観戦する姿を披露した。

他の観客たちと混ざり通常の観客席で試合を観るイニエスタの姿にはファンも驚き。「普通に観戦出来るん?」、「イニエスタがすぐ近くにいたら驚くよね」、「なんか全然普通のお父さん」、「VIP席じゃないのか?」と驚きのコメントが見られたほか、「試合に出てくれ」、「ベンチに入ってないのか」といった声もあった。

大先輩の前で、若きスペインはコスタリカ代表を圧倒。7-0の大勝を飾っている。

FKの魔術師・ジュニーニョ、CLバルセロナ戦の一撃に再脚光「歴代一番上手い」

21世紀の出場試合数ランキング発表! 首位は1145試合のC・ロナウド、トップ10に日本人選手がランクイン
