バルセロナは9日、ウルグアイ代表FWルイス・スアレスが手術を行うことを発表した。
スアレスは今季、右ヒザ内側半月板の損傷を抱えながらプレーしていたが、チャンピオンズリーグ敗退に終わったこのタイミングで関節鏡手術に踏み切る格好だ。なお、全治は手術後に判明するとのことだが、一般的には半年ほどと言われている。

▽韓国で行われているFIFA U-20ワールドカップにおいて、人種差別的なジェスチャーをしたとされたレアル・マドリーのU-20ウルグアイ代表MFフェデリコ・バルベルデだが、これを否定した。イギリス『BBC』が報じた。
▽ウルグアイは、準々決勝でU-20ポルトガル代表と対戦。120分間を終えて2-2のドローとなり、PK戦までもつれた試合を5-4で制したウルグアイが、ベスト4に勝ち進んだ。
▽この試合でPKによる同点ゴールを決めたバルベルデが、目尻を釣り上げるゴールパフォーマンスを行っていた。このことが問題視され、アジア人に対する差別だと騒がれていたが、本人が否定した。

ユベントスのイタリア代表DFジョルジョ・キエッリーニが、バルセロナに所属するウルグアイ代表FWルイス・スアレスの“噛みつき事件”について言及している。イギリス『スカイ・スポーツ』が伝えた。
事件が起きたのは2014年ブラジル・ワールドカップ(W杯)のグループステージ第3節のイタリア代表とウルグアイ代表の一戦。ボックス内で競り合った際にキエッリーニは、スアレス(当時リバプール)に噛みつかれると、肩を出して噛み付かれたことを必死にアピールするも、認められなかった。

レアル・マドリーで今シーズン覚醒しているウルグアイ代表MFフェデリコ・バルベルデだが、ピッチ外での充実ぶりが好調の要因かもしれない。
マドリーにおいて重要な役割を担い始めていたバルベルデだが、今シーズンは中盤ではなく、主に右ウイングで起用されることに。すると、ポジションチェンジが奏功したのか、ここまでラ・リーガ12試合で6ゴール2アシストとゴールを量産。チャンピオンズリーグ(CL)でも5試合で2ゴール2アシストを記録していた。
マドリーのファーストチームに昇格後、通算で14ゴール12アシストのバルベルでだが、ゴールは半分以上をこの約2カ月半で記録しているから、その覚醒ぶりは明白だ。
まさに絶好調と言えるバルベルでだが、ピッチの外でも絶好調。先日のハロウィーンの仮装姿が話題となっている。
バルベルデはパートナーのミナ・ボニーノさんと息子のベニチオ・バルベルデくんと仮装姿を披露。そのクオリティが素晴らしいと話題だ。
バルベルデは『バットマン』シリーズに登場するジョーカーに扮しており、衣装は再現しているが髪の長さが足りていない。特に完成度が高いのがパートナーのミナ・ボニーノさん。こちらも『バットマン』シリーズで登場するハーレイ・クインに扮している。
そして、息子はなんとバットマンの仮装に。ミナ・ボニーノさんは「あなたたちは知らなかったでしょうけど、ジョーカーとハーレイ・クインにはバットマンがいたのよ」と綴っている。
写真だけでなく動画バージョンもあり、動画ではマドリーのジャージを着ていたバルベルデはミナ・ボニーノさんにジャージを脱がされ、次の瞬間に変身するというものだった。
これにファンは「かっこいいぞ」、「ハマってる」、「完璧だ」、「議論の余地はない」、「美しい」、「別次元だ」と称賛の声が届いている。
ピッチ内で充実しているバルベルデだが、ピッチ外でも充実していることが好調の要因かもしれない。

ウルグアイサッカー連盟(AUF)が、ウルグアイ代表の新ユニフォームを発表している。
2024年初頭にプーマとのユニフォームサプライヤー契約が終了したウルグアイ。新たなユニフォームサプライヤーとの契約はまだ結ばれておらず、今回の新ユニフォームもサプライヤーなしでの製作となった。
その新ユニフォームには、男女平等のための戦いに貢献するという目的もあり、3月8日の国際女性デーの枠組みから、ユニフォームの一部に女性に対する暴力根絶のシンボルであるパープルリボンにちなんだ紫色が取り入れられ、「8M」のロゴもあしらわれている。
AUFがこの「8M」のロゴを用いたユニフォームを製作したのは史上初のことであり、23日にバスク代表と、26日にコートジボワール代表と対戦する男子チームの選手たちの試合でお披露目となるということだ。
6月に開幕するコパ・アメリカ2024にも出場するウルグアイだが、このユニフォームを同大会で着用するかどうかは不明だ。
