アーセナルのスコットランド代表DFキーラン・ティアニーが、自身の古巣であるセルティックの日本人選手について言及した。スコットランド『サン』が伝えた。
スコットランド生まれのティアニーはセルティックのアカデミー出身。2016年1月に18歳でファーストチームに昇格すると、左サイドバックのレギュラーとしてプレー。公式戦170試合で8ゴール37アシストを記録した。
2019年8月にアーセナルに加入すると、ケガなどに悩まされながらも公式戦110試合で5ゴール13アシストを記録。今シーズンは途中出場なども多いが公式戦23試合で1ゴール1アシストを記録している。
ティアニーは今でもセルティックのファンとして知られるが、そのセルティックは昨シーズンから一気に日本人選手が増加。FW古橋亨梧をはじめ、FW前田大然、MF旗手怜央、MF井手口陽介、DF小林友希、DF岩田智輝と6名が所属。また、アンジェ・ポステコグルー監督もJリーグからやってきたこともあり、日本に縁が強くなっている一方で、チームもリーグ制覇を成し遂げるなど大きく結果を残している。
アーセナルでは日本代表DF冨安健洋とチームメイトであるティアニーは、古巣の日本人選手についてコメント。冨安にそれぞれの選手について教えてもらっていると明かした。
「トミとはよく話をする。僕は日本から来た選手のことはよく知らなかったし、先月サインした2人も同じだ。僕はJリーグを観ていないから、トミに情報と選手としての考えを聞いたんだ」
「前田大然はカタールで開催されたワールドカップの日本代表でトミと一緒にいたね。トミは契約した全ての選手についてポジティブなことを言っていたし、それを聞いてとても嬉しいよ」
また、冨安についてもコメント。両サイドバックでプレーする冨安はライバルにもなるが、良い関係を築いているようだ。
「彼も本当に素晴らしい選手だし、素晴らしいチームメイトだ。とても良い仲間だ」
「僕はいつもトミと話をして、トレーニング場ではセルティックの試合があれば一緒によく観ている。僕は、彼をセルティックのファンにしようとしているんだ(笑)」
ティアニーと言えば、幼少期に当時セルティックでスター選手だった元日本代表MF中村俊輔からスパイクをもらったエピソードが有名。同じ左利きのキックの名手に憧れていたことは有名だが、中村が多くの日本人の憧れでもあると語った。
「おかしな話だけど、僕がセルティックで子供の頃に中村俊輔からスパイクをもらった古い映像をトミが見たらしい。彼はずっと前から気がついていたんだ」
「中村は子供の頃のトミのヒーローの1人だったけど、それは世界中の多くの日本人選手と同じだと思うよ」

チャンピオンズリーグ(CL)も準々決勝の戦いがスタート。ベスト4入りを目指した8チームが対戦する。
8日に行われた2試合では、アーセナルがレアル・マドリーに3-0で、インテルがバイエルンに1-2で勝利を収めている中、アーセナルの勝利により、プレミアリーグは今シーズンの5位までが来シーズンのCL権を得られることになったと伝えられている。
今シーズンからフォーマットが大きく変更され、36チーム参加となったCL。そのため、各国リーグからの出場枠に変化が生まれ、複雑化している状況だ。
また、ベスト8に残っているクラブを見れば、バイエルン、インテル、アーセナル、レアル・マドリー、パリ・サンジェルマン(PSG)、バルセロナはリーグ戦の結果で来季のCL出場権獲得が濃厚。アストン・ビラ、ドルトムントは難しい可能性があるが、大半のチームは優勝した場合に出場権が重複することに。そのため、1枠が別のクラブに与えられることとなる。
その割り当てに大きく作用するのが欧州サッカー連盟(UEFA)のクラブ係数。過去5年間の欧州のクラブ大会における結果で決まるものだが、1位から10位までのチャンピオンは自動的に本戦出場となっており、予選から参加する国内リーグチャンピオン(UEFAランキングの11位〜55位にランクされる各国協会)の中で、最も良い係数を持つクラブに割り当てられることとなる。

チャンピオンズリーグ(CL)リーグフェーズが29日に全日程を終了。この結果、プレーオフに進出する16チームが決定した。
新フォーマットで開催されている今大会のCLでは、リーグフェーズで上位8チームに入ったリバプール、バルセロナ、アーセナル、インテル、アトレティコ・マドリー、レバークーゼン、リール、アストン・ビラのラウンド16進出が決定。
プレーオフ2ndレグでホーム開催となるシード権を得る9位～16位には、同大会最多優勝を誇るレアル・マドリーやミラン、バイエルン、ドルトムント、パリ・サンジェルマン(PSG)、ベンフィカら強豪クラブが入った。
一方、プレーオフ1stレグがホーム開催となる17位～24位には、前々回王者のマンチェスター・シティや最多7度の準優勝を誇るユベントスらに加え、日本人所属のモナコやフェイエノールト、セルテック、スポルティングCPが入った。
なお、リーグフェーズの順位によってプレーオフの組み合わせの大枠は決まっているが、正式な対戦カードは31日に行われる抽選会で決定。その後、1stレグが2月11日(火)、12日(水)、2ndレグが18日(火)、19日(水)に開催される。

セルティックの公式YouTubeチャンネルが日本人選手たちの入団セレモニーの様子を公開。その中で露わになった日本代表MF井手口陽介の上半身のタトゥーにファンから驚きの声が寄せられている。
今冬の移籍市場で、井手口に加え、FW前田大然、MF旗手怜央と日本人3名を一気に獲得したセルティック。12日には本拠地セルティック・パークで3選手のお披露目と会見が行われた。
会見前、ロッカールームでセルティックのユニフォームに着替えた井手口だが、その左肩から左ひじにかけてと、左脇腹、そして背中にもタトゥーが施されていた。
元々、ガンバ大阪時代にも右腕にびっしりとタトゥーを入れ、年々増やしていた井手口だが、右腕以外にも多くのタトゥーを入れていることがひょんなことから露わになった。
これにはファンからも「何気にタトゥー入ってる」、「左腕にもタトゥー入ってるの全然気づいてなかったわ、いつの間に～」、「知らなかったからビックリした」、「背中にも」と驚きの反応が相次いだ。
会見には、蓄えていた髭を剃って臨んだ井手口。2度目の欧州挑戦での活躍に期待がかかる。

世界的に有名な元ポルノ女優のミア・ハリファさん。現在は引退しており、インフルエンサーとして活躍しているが、実は大のサッカーファンとしても知られている。
現在29歳のミアさんは、スポーツ好きであり、特にサッカーがお気に入り。レバノン出身で、8歳の時に不安定な国内情勢の影響でアメリカへ家族と共に亡命していた。
世界的にも人気を博したミアさんはウェストハムのファンであることを公言。プレミアリーグのドリームチームを自身で組むなど、サッカーへの愛が非常に強いことでも知られている。
そのミアさんはYouTubeチャンネルの『AFTV』に出演。自身のお気に入りの現役選手3名を選ぶという企画に参加した。
しかし、ミアさんは現役選手ではなく、かつてマンチェスター・ユナイテッドでプレーし、イングランド代表のレジェンドでもあるデイビッド・ベッカムをまず挙げることに。「私は女性なのでベックスと言わざるを得ないわ」とコメント。理由が実に斬新で「12歳の時の私よりも高い声で彼が話すのを聞く度に、いつも笑わせてもらうわ。とても楽しいの」と、ベッカムの高い声がどうやらお気に入りらしい。
そして2人目に挙げたのがこれまた現役選手ではなく、ユベントスやレアル・マドリーで活躍し、フランス代表のレジェンドでもあるジネディーヌ・ジダンをピックアップした。
ジダンを選んだ理由については「ジネディーヌ・ジダンはサッカーを見てきた中で、最もエキサイティングだった」と、こちらは真面目にサッカー面でお気に入りの選手とのこと。ただ「私は暴力的なものが好きだけど、サッカーはバタバタしていて嫌になるわ。でもヘッドバッドは史上最高の瞬間だったわね」と、2006年のドイツW杯決勝でジダンがイタリア代表DFマルコ・マテラッツィに見舞った頭突きがお気に入りだという。
そして3人目に挙げたのが現役選手。唯一選ばれた現役選手はセルティックに所属し、カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)にも出場したオーストラリア代表MFアーロン・モーイだ。
日本代表FW前田大然、MF旗手怜央、FW古橋亨梧、MF井手口陽介とチームメイトとして今シーズンプレー。かつてはウェスタン・シドニー・ワンダラーズでMF小野伸二(北海道コンサドーレ札幌)共プレーしたことがある。
モーイを選んだ理由については、「フットボール界のカワイ・レナードのようなものね」と語り、NBAのロサンゼルス・クリッパーズに所属するバスケットボールプレーヤーに例え、「モーイはレナードのように行動する。カメラは苦手だし、ちょっとおっちょこちょいだけど、それを感じさせないわ」と語り、「わからないけど、彼を思い出すの。カワイ・レナードは良い男よ」と、またしても独特な理由で選出していた。
