イングランド代表FWイヴァン・トニーが新天地アル・アハリ・ジッダで先発落ちだ。
賭博関与で長期の出場停止を喰らい、復帰後なかなか調子が上がらずともユーロ2024のイングランド代表メンバーに滑り込んだトニー。
大会後、ブレントフォードからサウジ1部のアル・アハリへ、移籍金4200万ユーロ(約69.1億円)で完全移籍した。
ビッグクラブへの移籍が叶わず中東行きとなったなか、王者アル・ヒラルの対抗馬としてリーグ優勝が期待されるアル・アハリにおいて、デビュー2戦目で2得点を叩き出す。
しかし、チームはリーグ戦3勝2分け3敗と、今季も圧倒的な強さで首位を突っ走る王者アル・ヒラルの背中が視界にも入らず。
その中で、トニーは連携面が向上していないと判断されているようで、公式戦13試合4得点3アシストという数字のかたわら、ACLEを含めた直近の公式戦2試合でスタメン落ち。
9日の試合後、マティアス・ヤイスレ監督は「トニーは新戦力。新たに加わった選手が困難に直面するのはいたって普通のことだよ。これからは代表ウィーク。この期間で練習を重ね、チームに溶け込ませたい」と擁護した。
もっとも、「代表ウィークで溶け込ませたい」は、トニーが加入後にイングランド代表からフェードアウトしたゆえ。最近はエンゴロ・カンテなどサウジから欧州の列強国代表に返り咲く選手が少なくないが、トニーも巻き返せるか。

国際サッカー連盟(FIFA)は4日、最新のFIFAランキングを発表した。
2025年最初の発表となった今回のランキング。3月には2026年北中米ワールドカップ(W杯)予選やUEFAネーションズリーグ、CONCACAFネーションズリーグなどが行われた。
前回のランキングが発表された2024年12月以降、世界中で245試合の国際試合が実施。ランキングには大きな変動があった。
日本代表は、3月のW杯予選でバーレーン代表に勝利してW杯出場を決定。サウジアラビア代表とは引き分けに終わった中、15位をキープすることとなった。
上位では、2位のフランス代表と3位のスペイン代表が入れ替わることに。また、6位のポルトガル代表と7位のオランダ代表も入れ替わっている。また、11位以下はウルグアイ代表、コロンビア代表、クロアチア代表、モロッコ代表となっていたが、クロアチア、モロッコ、ウルグアイ、コロンビアに並びが変更となっている。

しばしば最高のフリーキッカーの1人に数えられる元イングランド代表MFのデイビッド・ベッカム。数多く決めてきた直接FKの中でも最も特別なものとされるのが、2001年10月6日にオールド・トラッフォードで行われた日韓ワールドカップ(W杯) 欧州予選の最終節ギリシャ戦でのものだ。
ベッカムはこの3年前、フランスW杯のラウンド16でアルゼンチン代表と対戦した際、相手MFディエゴ・シメオネ(現アトレティコ・マドリー監督)にファウルを受けると、その報復で蹴りつけてしまい一発退場。数的不利のイングランドはPK戦まで持ち込んだものの敗れ、ベッカムは“戦犯”として扱われた。
国民からの批判を浴びながらも代表に招集され続けたベッカムを擁するイングランドは、欧州予選の最終節を前にドイツ代表とグループ首位を争っていた。2位チームはプレーオフに進むため勝利を目指したギリシャ戦だが、90分を終えて1-2とビハインドの展開になってしまう。
そして迎えた後半アディショナルタイムの93分、イングランドがゴール真正面の位置でFKを獲得すると、ベッカムが美しいフォームからキックを繰り出す。大きく曲がるシュートに相手GKは飛ぶことすらできず、勝ち点1を奪ったイングランドは首位を守りW杯出場を決めた。
イギリス『サン』によると、ベッカムは、このFKによりイングランドサポーターから真に受け入れられたと語っている。
「それはイングランドサポーターが、私が数年前に起こしたことを許してくれた瞬間だった」
「個人的には、起こしたことへの贖いだった。それまで、見送られる時には常に雲がかかっていた」

データおよびテクノロジーにおけるリーディングカンパニーの「ニールセン・グレースノート」が、オーストラリア&ニュージーランド女子ワールドカップ(W杯)に出場する選手のインフルエンサーとしてのランキングを発表した。
なでしこジャパンも出場する女子W杯。開幕までおよそ1カ月となった中で、各国の出場選手も決定している。
「ニールセン・グレースノート」は出場する選手の中での、インフルエンサーとしてのランキングを発表。フォロワーやフォロワーの増加、エンゲージメント率など、インスタグラム上の投稿ごとの平均ブランド価値を評価してランキングを発表した。
トップ10が発表され、実に9カ国の選手がランクイン。アメリカ女子代表のみが唯一2選手がランクインしている。
1位に輝いたのは、アストン・ビラでプレーするスイス女子代表のアリーシャ・レーマン。世界一セクシーなアスリートとしても知られ、インスタグラムのフォロワーは1340万人。元プロテニスプレーヤーのロジャー・フェデラーを超え、インスタグラムで最も人気のあるスイス人アスリートとなっている。
アストン・ビラでは2シーズンでFA女子スーパーリーグ(FAWSL)で43試合に出場し7ゴール。スイス代表としても38キャップを記録している。
2位には、バルセロナのエースでありスペイン女子代表のエースでもあるMFアレクシア・プテジャス。フォロワーは280万人であり、1位のレーマンがどれほどのフォロワーを抱えているかがわかる。
2シーズン連続でUEFA年間最優秀女子選手、バロンドールを受賞。2021年にはFIFA最優秀女子選手賞を受賞している。
2022年にはスペイン女子初となる代表100キャップに到達。その後、前十字じん帯を損傷し女子ユーロは欠場していた。
3位は、サンディエゴ・ウェーブスに所属するアメリカ女子代表FWアレックス・モーガン。フォロワーは1000万人だが、増加率やエンゲージメント率が低く、価値は3位となった。
言わずと知れたアメリカのエースで、過去2度のW杯優勝を経験。2012年のロンドン・オリンピックでは金メダルを獲得している。アメリカ女子代表として200キャップ以上を記録し、120ゴール以上を決めている。
4位はOHレインに所属するカナダ女子代表のFWジョーディン・ホイテマ。160万人以上のフォロワー数を持っている。

元イングランド代表DFのウェイン・ブリッジ氏は、チェルシー時代に自身の元恋人と不倫関係にあった元イングランド代表DFのジョン・テリー氏を未だに許してないのかもしれない。イギリス『サン』が報じている。
ブリッジ氏とテリー氏は、同じ39歳でチェルシーとイングランド代表で共闘してきた親友だった。しかし、2010年1月にブリッジ氏が当時交際し、1人の息子をもうけていたヴァネッサ・プロンセルと、既婚のテリー氏に不倫疑惑が持ち上がり、両者の関係は完全に破綻。
この騒動がキッカケでテリー氏はイングランド代表キャプテンをはく奪され、ブリッジ氏も“不倫男”との共闘を望まず、代表辞退という重い決断を下していた。
さらに、不倫問題発覚後、初の直接対決となった試合では当時マンチェスター・シティに在籍していたブリッジ氏が、試合前の握手を拒否。さらに、シティのチームメイトだった元アルゼンチン代表FWカルロス・テベスが、得点直後にテリー氏の前に立ちはだかってブリッジ氏を指さすパフォーマンスを見せるなど、大きな話題をさらっていた。
その後、ブリッジ氏は2013年に現在の妻であるイギリス人歌手のフランキーサンド・フォードさんと結婚し、2人の息子を授かっている。
その事件から10年が経った今年に入って両氏は、再びメディアの話題に挙がることに。
『サン』が伝えるところによれば、テリー氏は今年4月にロンドン近郊のサリーに430万ポンド(約6億円)の邸宅を購入し、すでに引っ越しも済ませているという。
そして、その新居から数分の距離にはブリッジ氏と家族が住む550万ポンド(約7億6000万円)の邸宅があった。
しかし、同メディアによると、ブリッジ夫妻はテリー氏の引っ越しが原因かは不明なものの、現在その自宅を売りに出しているという。
この動きに関してある関係者は、「ウェインとジョンは明らかに最高の友人とは言えない。今は不動産市場に不確実性があるが、ウェインとフランキーは新たなスタートを求めている。そして、現在の場所から少し離れた場所に引っ越しをすることを決めた」と、説明している。
今回の引っ越しは単なる偶然の可能性が高そうだが、ブリッジはやはり“不倫男”を許していないのか…。
