世界で最も裕福なサッカー選手として話題を呼んだ選手がクビになっていたことが判明。しかし、すでに新たなクラブが見つかっていた。
高収入のサッカー選手として思い浮かべられるのは、マンチェスター・ユナイテッドのポルトガル代表FWクリスティアーノ・ロナウドやパリ・サンジェルマンのアルゼンチン代表FWリオネル・メッシといったところだろう。
彼らはサラリーも去ることながら、スポンサー収入などが多く、C・ロナウドは年収が100億円を超えると言われ、総資産額は約3億6300万ポンド(約560億円)とされている。
しかし、世界で最も裕福な選手は130億ポンド(約2兆円)もの財産を持つ男。ブルネイ・ダルサラーム代表FWファイク・ボルキア(23)だ。
世界で最も裕福な国とも言われるブルネイ出身のボルキアだが、石油王でもあり、スルターン(国王、皇帝)の称号を与えられている叔父から相続した財産が130億ポンドとされている。
父親はブルネイの王子・ジェフリ・ボルキア。月に3500万ポンド(約54億円)を使うほど豪遊していると言われ、過去には約1250万ポンド(約20億円)を投じてマイケル・ジャクソン氏のプライベート・コンサートを開いたとされていた。
ボルキア自身は、アメリカ・ロサンゼルスで生まれ、育成年代ではアーセナルやチェルシーで過ごし、レスター・シティを経て2020年夏にマリティモへと加入。しかし、今月頭に解雇されていた。
マリティモでの出番がなかったボルキアだが、新天地はタイに決定。24日にタイリーグ1のチョンブリーFCへの入団が発表されていた。
今シーズンのタイリーグ1ではブリーラム・ユナイテッド、バンコクユナイテッドに続いて3位につけている状況。シーズンは残り半分があるが、上手くいけばAFCチャンピオンズリーグ(ACL)でその姿を見ることができるかもしれない。

タイ代表を指揮する石井正忠監督の姿勢がファンの心を掴んでいる。
鹿島アントラーズや大宮アルディージャで指揮を執った石井監督は、2019年1月に大宮の監督を退任。2019年12月にタイに渡り、サムットプラカーン・シティの監督に就任すると、その後指揮したブリーラム・ユナイテッドでは就任1年目にいきなり3冠を達成。2年目も3冠を達成するなど結果を残した。
その後、2023年8月にタイ代表のテクニカル・ディレクター(TD)に就任し、同年11月から監督としてタイを指揮。グループステージを突破した今年のアジアカップ2023でもチームを指揮していた。
現在、2026年の北中米ワールドカップ(W杯)アジア2次予選に臨んでいるタイは、3月の同予選で韓国代表と連戦。21日にアウェイで行われた試合は1-1で引き分け大きな勝ち点1を得ていたが、26日にホームで行われた一戦は0-3で敗れていた。
試合には敗れたタイと石井監督だが、キックオフ直前のある光景がファンの心を掴むこととなった。
タイの国歌斉唱のタイミングで、ベンチの石井監督は、恐らく歌詞が記されたメモを見ながら一緒に国歌斉唱。その様子がタイ代表の公式SNSで公開されると、「とても素晴らしい」、「今まで誰もやってこなかった」、「全タイ国民の心をつかんだ」、「ありがとう石井先生」と反響が寄せられることとなった。
2次予選のグループCに入っているタイは、4試合を終えて韓国と中国代表に次ぐ3位。韓国との2試合を終えている中、中国との直接対決もあり、2位以上での2次予選突破の可能性も十分に残されている。

2018年にタイの洞窟に閉じ込められ、2週間以上を過ごした上に救助された少年サッカーチームのメンバーがイギリスで突然死したという。イギリス『BBC』が伝えた。
事件が起こったのは2018年6月23日。タイのチェンライ県のタムルアン森林公園内にあるタムルアン洞窟を、地元のサッカーチーム「ムーパ・アカデミー」のコーチ1人と少年12人の13人が探索。その最中に閉じ込められる遭難事故が発生した。
13名は2週間以上洞窟内に閉じ込められ、7月10日に全員が救出。しかし、救出活動中にダイバー1人が殉職。翌年にこの救助活動中にケガをし、感染症にかかった別のダイバーも翌年に他界していた。
当時チームのキャプテンを務めており、救助された少年の1人であるドゥアンペット・プロムテップさんは12日にレスターシャーの寮で意識不明の状態で発見。病院に運ばれたが、14日に死亡した。17歳だった。
プロムテップさんはブルックハウス・カレッジ・フットボールアカデミーに参加するための奨学金を獲得したことを昨年8月に地震のインスタグラムで報告。「今日、僕の夢が叶った」と投稿していた。
レスターシャー警察によれば、プロムテップさんがどのように亡くなったかは不明だとのこと。ただ、不審死としては扱われていないと発表。タイの報道では頭部に外傷を負っていたとされている。
在タイ英国大使館のデイブ・トーマス氏はイギリス留学をするプロムテップさんと過去に2ショットを撮影しており、在タイ英国大使館はツイートで追悼した。
「英国大使館は、英国でサッカーを学んでいたドゥアンペット・プロムテップさんが亡くなったことについて、ご遺族とご友人に哀悼の意を表します」
「昨年、大使館でドムを歓迎する機会がありました。我々がそのような才能のある人を失うことは大きな悲劇です」

テゲバジャーロ宮崎は29日、2023シーズンまで監督を務めていた加藤光男氏(44)がタイ代表のコーチに就任することを発表した。
加藤監督は2008年から早稲田大学ア式蹴球部のコーチを務め、2012年以降はタイのチョンブリーFCのアシスタントコーチや京都サンガF.C.のアナリスト、フィットネスコーチを経験。2019年から再びタイに活動拠点を移すと、同年にはタイ女子代表のアシスタントコーチも務めた。
2021年に初めて監督としてタイ・リーグ2のネイビーFCを率いると、その後はサムットプラーカーン・シティFCのテクニカルディレクターやタイ女子代表、BGパトゥム・ユナイテッドFC、チェンマイFCのアシスタントコーチを歴任。2023年7月に宮崎のコーチに就任すると、9月には松田浩監督の解任を受け監督に昇格し、明治安田生命J3リーグを19位で終えた。
タイ代表はかつて鹿島アントラーズや大宮アルディージャを指揮し、ブリーラム・ユナイテッドでは就任から2年連続で3冠を達成した石井正忠監督が指揮。その手腕が買われ、タイ代表のテクニカルディレクター(TD)に就任すると、11月にタイ代表監督に就任していた。
来年元日には日本代表と対戦するタイ代表。国内のサッカーにも精通する加藤氏の就任は大きな力となりそうだ。
加藤氏はクラブを通じてコメントしている。
「この度、タイA代表のコーチに就任することになりました。タイ国内リーグで3冠を2シーズン獲った石井正忠監督の下で、タイ代表スタッフとして2026年W杯を目指して参ります」
「まずは来年元旦に行われる日本戦が新生スタッフの初戦となります。短い期間でしたが、宮崎で得た経験は素晴らしく密度の高い経験値を得られたと思っています。また近い将来、宮崎の温かいサポーターの皆様の前で仕事が出来ますよう、邁進して参ります」
