10年前のプレミアリーグで注目を集めたチャーリー・モーガンの今が話題だ。
サッカーファンでも中々聞き覚えのない名前だが、それもそのはず。モーガンは選手ではなく、ボールボーイを務めていた。
モーガンが一躍時の人となったのは、2013年の1月24日に行われたキャピタル・ワン・カップ準決勝、チェルシーvsスウォンジー・シティの2ndレグだった。
1stレグをスウォンジーが2-0で勝利し、2ndレグが0-0のまま試合終盤を迎えていたなか、78分にスウォンジーのゴールキックを迎える。
ボールを拾いに行ったモーガンだが、ボールを戻さずにいるとチェルシーのMFエデン・アザール(現レアル・マドリー)がボールを貰おうと駆け寄る。それでもボールを離さず、ボールに覆いかぶさったモーガンを蹴った格好となると、アザールが一発退場となり、3試合の出場停止となっていた。
この時のボールボーイがモーガンだ。スウォンジーのクラブ幹部の息子でもあったため、大きな話題となっていた。
そんな問題児だが、今では立派な社長に。イギリス『デイリー・スター』によると今はウォッカの会社を経営しており、4000万ポンド(約64億円)の資産を持つ大富豪だという。
モーガンは2016年に学校の友人と「オー・ウォッカ」という会社を設立。会社の商品は元ブラジル代表のロナウジーニョ氏やボクシングのフロイド・メイウェザーなど、そうそうたる顔ぶれに愛用されているそうだ。
父から大きな援助を受けたとのことだが、しっかりと事業を成功させており、その狡猾さはビジネスでも生きているのかもしれない。

ミランがアーセナルやシャルケの若手選手に目をつけているようだ。イタリア『カルチョメルカート』が報じた。
近年は比較的若手の育成に成功しているミラン。2019年夏にリールから獲得したFWラファエル・レオンは攻撃の核として活躍しており、2020年夏にブレシアからミランへと移ったMFサンドロ・トナーリは、多額の移籍金を残して今夏ニューカッスルへと去っていった。
そんなミランは引き続き若い才能への投資を続けていきたいと考えているようで、アーセナルアカデミー出身のU-21イングランド代表MFチャーリー・パティーノ(20)に注目している模様。現在スウォンジー・シティにレンタル移籍中のこのプレーメイカーの獲得には、少なくとも移籍金2500万ユーロ(約39億9000万円)が必要となるようだが、MFラデ・クルニッチとの契約延長交渉が破談となった場合は獲得に動く可能性があるという。
また、パティーノより3歳若く、すでにシャルケで主力として活躍しているU-17ドイツ代表MFアサン・ウエドラオゴ(17)には継続的に接触を図っているとのこと。実際に獲得に動くには、シャルケが設定している2000万ユーロ(約31億9000万円)の契約解除金を引き下げることができるかどうかが鍵となるようだ。
なお、近年シャルケからミランに移った選手では2022年夏に加入した22歳のDFマリック・チャウがいる。今シーズンのチャウは開幕からレギュラーの1人として最終ラインを支えており、6月にはドイツ代表デビューも飾っていた。

▽現役時代にストーク・シティやWBA、ヨーク・シティなどで活躍したイングランド人DFのポッター監督は、現役引退後の2011年に当時スウェーデン4部に所属していたエステルンドの監督に就任。すると、在任7年間で3度の昇格に導く卓越した手腕を発揮し、2016-17シーズンには国内カップのタイトルをもたらした。この活躍から2016年と2017年にはスウェーデンサッカー協会選出の年間最優秀監督を2年連続で受賞している。
