ウニオン・ベルリンは9日、アメリカ代表MFブレンデン・アーロンソン(22)がリーズ・ユナイテッドからレンタル移籍で加入することを発表した。
アメリカ生まれのアーロンソンは、フィラデルフィア・ユニオンで育ち、2019年1月からファーストチームでプレー。その後、2021年1月にレッドブル・ザルツブルクに完全移籍。2022年7月にリーズへと完全移籍で加入した。
ザルツブルクでは公式戦66試合で13ゴール15アシストを記録。リーズでは、公式戦40試合で1ゴール3アシストを記録した。
プレミアリーグで36試合に出場するなど、大きな経験を積んだが、チームは19位でチャンピオンシップ(イングランド2部)に降格。それもあり、ウニオン・ベルリンへと加入し、新シーズンはチャンピオンズリーグ(CL)にも出場することとなる。
アーロンソンはクラブを通じてコメントしている。
「ユニオンの歩みと近年の成功は、アメリカ、オーストリア、イギリスでも注目を集めている。1年前は、自分がここにいて、ウニオンからチャンピオンズリーグにも出場できるなんて信じられなかった」
「僕は喜びと自信を持って来年を楽しみにしており、また成功したシーズンを過ごせるようサポートしたいと思っている」
ちなみに、弟であるMFパクステン・アーロンソン(19)はフランクフルトに所属。兄の移籍により、ブンデスリーガでの兄弟対決が実現する可能性がありそうだ。

フランクフルトは18日、メジャーリーグ・サッカー(MLS)のフィラデルフィア・ユニオンからU-20アメリカ代表MFパクステン・アーロンソン(19)を完全移籍で獲得した。契約期間は2027年6月30日までとなる。
リーズ・ユナイテッドでプレーするアメリカ代表MFブレンデン・アーロンソンを兄に持つアーロンソンは、2015年からフィラデルフィアに下部組織に在籍。昨年3月に17歳でMLSデビューを飾ると、これまで公式戦41試合に出場し4ゴールを記録。
また、昨年11月にU-20アメリカ代表に飛び級で選出されると、今年6月のU-20北中米カリブ海選手権で7ゴールを決めて得点王となり、MVPにも輝いた。
フランクフルトへの加入が決まったアーロンソンは、公式サイトのインタビューで以下のように喜びを語った。
｢ここに来られてワクワクしているし、本当に幸せだ。僕の得意なプレーはハイテンポかつハイペースでプレッシングをかけることだ。そして、攻守が入れ替わったらハーフスペースでボールを受けて、できるだけ早くゴールへ向かう。フランクフルトはそういうプレーを目指しているし、それは僕にとってとても魅力的で、僕のプレースタイルに合っているんだ｣

アーロンソンはリーズ・ユナイテッドでプレーするアメリカ代表MFブレンデン・アーロンソンの実弟。その兄と同様にトップ下やサイドを主戦場とする攻撃的MFは、圧倒的なボールスキル、視野の広さを生かしたラストパス、得点力を兼ね備えた万能型だ。
2021年5月のトップチームデビュー以降は公式戦41試合4ゴールを記録。また、フル代表デビューは果たしていないが、今年6月のU-20北中米カリブ海選手権で7ゴールを決めて得点王となり、MVPにも輝いた実績を持つ。
かつて兄も在籍したレッドブル・ザルツブルクらの関心もあった注目株だが、アメリカ人記者のトム・ボガート氏によると、基本移籍金400万ドル(約5億6000万円)+ボーナス、将来のリセール時の数%譲渡という条件で、昨季のヨーロッパリーグ王者が争奪戦を制する形になった。
フランクフルトでスポーツディレクターを務めるマルクス・クレシェは、一部で日本代表MF鎌田大地の後継者とも伝えられる逸材の獲得に満足感を示す。
