今回のコラムは昨日行われた第102回全国高校サッカー選手権の決勝、青森山田高対近江高の試合で書く予定でいた。しかし8日、「皇帝」と言われた西ドイツ(当時)のDFフランツ・ベッケンバウアー氏(78歳)の訃報が届いたので彼のエピソードを紹介したい。 それにしても訃報が続く。1月5日にはブラジル人のマリオ・ザガロ氏が92歳で逝去した。選手として、そして監督としても初めてW杯を制したザガロ氏。彼には、かつて東京ガスの招きでサッカークリニックに来日した際にインタビューしたことがあった。若気の至りで「74年のW杯ではクライフのオランダに完敗しましたね」と聞いてしまったが、通訳の方が気を利かして質問をスルーしてくれたので助かった思い出がある。 昨年10月にはボビー・チャールトン氏(86歳)も他界した。中学・高校時代に憧れた選手が次々といなくなるのは寂しいものだ。 ベッケンバウアー氏のプレーを初めてテレビで見たのは、三菱ダイヤモンドサッカーが放映した70年メキシコW杯だった。衝撃的だったのが準決勝のイタリア戦だ。 開始8分にFWロベルト・ポニンセーニャのゴールでイタリアが先制。試合中には接触プレーで倒されたMFベッケンバウアーが、右肩を脱臼しながらも包帯で腕を吊ってプレーを続行した。そして90分、DFカール=ハインツ・シュネリンガーのスライディングシュートで西ドイツが土壇場でタイスコアに追いついた。 ここから両チームは壮絶な点の取り合いを演じた。まず94分、FWゲルト・ミュラーが西ドイツの逆転ゴールを決めると、98分にはDFタルチシオ・ブルニチが同点ゴールをゲット。そして108分にイタリアはFWルイジ・リーバが勝ち越しに成功したが、110分に再びミュラーがゴールを決めて3-3のイーブンに戻す。しかし111分、MFジャンニ・リベラの決勝点でイタリアがファイナルへの出場権を獲得したのだった。 西ドイツにとって不運だったのは、準々決勝のイングランド戦に続いての延長戦だったこと。前回イングランドW杯決勝と同じ顔合わせとなった試合は、イングランドがMFアラン・マレリーとMFマーチン・ピータースのゴールで2点を先行した。 しかし西ドイツは68分にベッケンバウアーが1点を返すと、76分にFWウーベ・ゼーラー、108分にミュラーが決勝点を奪って前回大会の雪辱を果たしたのだった。「ゲルマン魂」という言葉を初めて聞いたのも、70年メキシコW杯だったと記憶している。 ザガロ氏に続いて、選手としても監督としてもW杯を制したベッケンバウアー氏(3人目はディディエ・デシャン)。選手としてバイエルン・ミュンヘンで頂点を極め、西ドイツ代表として72年のEUROと74年のW杯で王者となり、監督としてもバイエルンやオリンピック・マルセイユ、そしてドイツ代表を率いてチームを優勝へ導いた。バロンドールなどの個人タイトルも数え切れないほど受賞している。 そんなベッケンバウアー氏を、同じドイツ人ジャーナリストのマーティン・ヘーゲレ氏は「ミスター・パーフェクト。何をやっても成功する強運の持ち主だ」と感嘆していた。 「皇帝」の安らかな眠りを祈りたい。 2024.01.10 15:00 Wed

「素晴らしい」「本当にかっこいい」バイエルンが赤と金の125周年記念ユニフォームを発表! アクセス殺到でサーバーがパンク「注文できない」
