WEリーグと三菱重工浦和レッズレディースは22日、アジアサッカー連盟(AFC)からAFC Women's Club Championship 2023 – Invitational Tournament(AWCC)決勝が実施されず、中止となったとの報を受けたことを発表した。
AWCCは、AFC女子チャンピオンズリーグ2024(女子ACL)のプレ大会として位置づけられ、各国から計8チームが参加。日本からは昨季2冠の浦和が出場していた。
グループステージは昨年11月に行われ、浦和はグループAを3連勝で突破。グループBは田中陽子を擁する韓国の仁川現代スチールレッドエンジェルスが突破し、今年5月に決勝が行われる予定だった。
このため、WEリーグも一部日程を変更し、第20節の三菱重工浦和レッズレディースvsアルビレックス新潟レディースを、前倒しで3月27日へ設定。両クラブはミッドウイーク開催2試合を含む5連戦を戦うこととなっていた。
決勝は中止となったが、リーグの急遽の日程変更が難しいことから、浦和vs新潟Lは予定通り平日14時キックオフで開催。WEリーグは両チームのファン・サポーターへ謝罪の言葉を伝えると同時に、AFCに対して遺憾の意を示し、説明を要望するとの声明を発表している。
「また、この決勝の開催予定に伴い、3月27日(水)の平日開催となっておりました2023-24 WEリーグ 第20節ですが、他の5試合の開催週(5月11日、12日)への日程変更が難しく、予定通りそのままの日程での開催となりますので併せてお知らせいたします」

AFCの対応をめぐっては、2月末に行われたパリ・オリンピック 女子サッカーアジア最終予選、北朝鮮女子代表vsなでしこジャパンの会場が直前になっても決まらず、批判が続出。
21日にも、26日に平壌で開催予定だった男子サッカー2026北中米ワールドカップ(W杯)アジア2次予選第4節の北朝鮮代表vs日本代表の会場変更を、試合の5日前に突然通達する始末。
