前パリ・サンジェルマン(PSG)指揮官のマウリシオ・ポチェッティーノ氏(50)が、イングランド代表指揮官就任の噂に反応した。スペイン『Fichajes』が伝えている。

エスパニョールやサウサンプトン、トッテナムで指揮を執り、昨年1月から今夏までPSGを率いていたポチェッティーノ氏。現在はフリーながら、様々な欧州クラブからのコンタクトがあるとされ、その去就に注目が途切れることはない。

一方、根強いのはカタールW杯後からイングランド代表を率いるのではとの観測。現職のガレス・サウスゲイト監督は大会後の退任が確実と考えられており、プレミアリーグでの経験が豊富なポチェッティーノ氏は後任の最有力候補との見方もある。

そんななか、同氏がこれらの噂に言及。スリーライオンズ就任の可能性を排除していないと明言した。

「もちろんイングランドとの関係は良好さ。FA(サッカー協会)とも非常に良い関係だし、彼らが代表チームのために若いプレーヤーを育てていこうとしているのも承知している。何が起こるかは誰にもわからないね。私はすべての可能性にオープンだ」

北中米W杯の欧州予選組み合わせ決定! 12カ国+POの4カ国が出場権獲得、来年3月からスタート【2026年北中米W杯欧州予選】
