元ベルギー代表DFイェーレ・ヴァン・ダンメ(37)が12日に自身の公式『インスタグラム』を通じて現役引退を発表した。

ヴァン・ダンメは昨年夏にロケレンとの契約が終了して以降、半年以上に渡ってフリーの状況が続いていた。

そして、今月12日のタイミングで自身のキャリアに終止符を打つことを明かした。

「僕は正式にプロフットボールから引退することになった」

「子供たちが自分の選択の中で常に優先されていたけど、決断するのは簡単なことではなく、難しい決断だった。でも、もう遠くには行かないと約束していたので、より近くのクラブからの関心を期待していたけど、ここまで何も動きはなかったからしょうがないね」

「だから、僕は引退する。ただ、正直なところ、人生にはこの美しいゲームよりももっと多くのことがあるとも思っているよ」

「まずは、これまでプレーしてきたすべてのクラブとこの国を代表してプレーするチャンスを与えてくれた代表チームに感謝したいと思うよ。率直に言って、自分の中にある全てのものを全て出し切ったと言えると思う」

Kベールスホットでプロキャリアをスタートしたヴァン・ダンメは、アヤックスやサウサンプトン、ブレーメン、LAギャラクシーという国外クラブ、アンデルレヒト、スタンダール・リエージュ、ロイヤル・アントワープと国内の名門でプレー。

190cmの長身を生かした対人プレーを最大の特長としていた左利きのセンターバックは、ベルギー代表でも通算31試合に出場していた。

ユーロ2024予選組み合わせ決定!王者イタリアがイングランドとまさかの同居、ベルギー、オーストリア、スウェーデンが死の組に
