9月30日に2020-21シーズンのチャンピオンズリーグ(CL)予選プレーオフが終了し、CLグループステージに出場する全32チームおよびポット分けが決定した。
バイエルンの7年ぶり6度目の優勝で幕を閉じた2019-20シーズンから約2カ月を経て新シーズンのヨーロッパ王者を懸けた戦いが幕を開ける。
ポット1にはUEFAカントリーランキング上位6チームの国内王者であるレアル・マドリー、リバプール、ユベントス、昨季CL王者でありドイツ王者のバイエルン、パリ・サンジェルマン(PSG)が入り、ここに昨季ヨーロッパリーグ(EL)王者のセビージャ、UEFAカントリーランキング7位のポルトガル王者であるポルトが繰り上がりで入った。
さらに、UEFAクラブランキング上位が並ぶポット2ではマンチェスター・シティ、マンチェスター・ユナイテッド、チェルシーのイングランド勢3チームにバルセロナとアトレティコ・マドリーのスペイン勢、ドルトムント、アヤックス、シャフタールが入った。

伝説のGKカーンが語る意外な後悔「あそこに移籍すれば良かった」
