イギリス『BBC』によると、マルティネス氏は12日にニューヨークでなくなったとのこと。死因は心臓発作とのことだ。
2005年にプロキャリアをスタートさせたマルティネス氏は、母国クラブのほか、北京国安やアラベス、重慶力帆、サンノゼ・アースクウェイクスなどでプレー。2016年1月にエルサルバドルのFASで現役を引退していた。
主に左サイドを中心にプレーしたサイドアタッカーで、中国スーパーリーグでは33試合に出場し12ゴール1アシスト、メジャーリーグ・サッカー(MLS)では15試合に出場し2ゴール1アシストを記録している。
また、ホンジュラス代表としては2002年からプレーし通算49試合に出場し12ゴールを記録。ホンジュラス史上2度目の出場となった、2010年の南アフリカ・ワールドカップでは3試合プレーしていた。

大会初戦は22日のU-24南アフリカ代表戦。5日から静岡県で合宿をスタートさせ、大学生との練習試合を2試合実施。10日に大阪へと移動した。
