東京五輪でのイギリス代表復活に難色示すコールマン「混合チームなど作る必要はない」

▽リオ五輪が閉幕し、次の東京五輪に向けてイギリス代表チーム復活が囁かれる中、ウェールズ代表を率いるクリス・コールマン監督はこの動きに否定的な意見を述べている。イギリス『スカイ・スポーツ』が報じた。

▽五輪では各オリンピック委員会単位での出場しか認めていない。一方でイギリスはイングランド、ウェールズ、スコットランド、北アイルランドの4つが独自にサッカー協会を持っているため、五輪に出場することはできない。

▽しかし2012年に行われたロンドン五輪ではイギリス代表として出場を果たしている。リオ五輪に向けても同様にイギリス代表として出場しようとイングランドサッカー協会(FA)は提案していたが、ほかの3協会が反対して破談となった。

▽しかし、イギリスメディアによると、FAは2020年に行われる東京五輪で再びイギリス代表を復活させたい意向を示しており、今後は残りの協会を説得していくと報じられている。

▽この報道に、コールマン監督は「なんのために合同チームを作る必要があるのか。そもそも五輪に出場するためには、今よりもさらに多くの試合に出場しなければいけない」とコメント。さらに次のように続けた。

「選手たちはアイデンティティを持っている。そして自分たちが着るユニフォームに誇りを持っている。自分の国のエンブレム、ユニフォームに忠誠を誓った選手のプレーを見たいものだ。だからこそ混合チームなど作る必要はない」

北中米W杯の欧州予選組み合わせ決定! 12カ国+POの4カ国が出場権獲得、来年3月からスタート【2026年北中米W杯欧州予選】
