▽リオ五輪が閉幕し、次の東京五輪に向けてイギリス代表チーム復活が囁かれる中、ウェールズ代表を率いるクリス・コールマン監督はこの動きに否定的な意見を述べている。イギリス『スカイ・スポーツ』が報じた。
▽しかし、イギリスメディアによると、FAは2020年に行われる東京五輪で再びイギリス代表を復活させたい意向を示しており、今後は残りの協会を説得していくと報じられている。
▽この報道に、コールマン監督は「なんのために合同チームを作る必要があるのか。そもそも五輪に出場するためには、今よりもさらに多くの試合に出場しなければいけない」とコメント。さらに次のように続けた。

▽五輪では各オリンピック委員会単位での出場しか認めていない。一方でイギリスはイングランド、ウェールズ、スコットランド、北アイルランドの4つが独自にサッカー協会を持っているため、五輪に出場することはできない。▽しかし2012年に行われたロンドン五輪ではイギリス代表として出場を果たしている。リオ五輪に向けても同様にイギリス代表として出場しようとイングランドサッカー協会(FA)は提案していたが、ほかの3協会が反対して破談となった。▽この報道に、コールマン監督は「なんのために合同チームを作る必要があるのか。そもそも五輪に出場するためには、今よりもさらに多くの試合に出場しなければいけない」とコメント。さらに次のように続けた。
「選手たちはアイデンティティを持っている。そして自分たちが着るユニフォームに誇りを持っている。自分の国のエンブレム、ユニフォームに忠誠を誓った選手のプレーを見たいものだ。だからこそ混合チームなど作る必要はない」

「彼を雇用したことに驚いた」ルーニー監督がトゥヘル監督のイングランド代表監督就任に言及、自身は2人の外国人監督を経験「彼の幸運を祈る」
現役時代はイングランド代表のエースとして活躍したウェイン・ルーニー監督が、イングランド代表の指揮官にトーマス・トゥヘル監督が就任したことに驚いを隠さなかった。イギリス『BBC』が伝えた。 エバートンで鮮烈なデビューを果たし、その後はマンチェスター・ユナイテッドでエースとしてプレー。引退後は指導者にも転身しているルーニー監督。若くしてイングランド代表にも選出され、キャプテンも務め、最多得点記録も保持している。 現在はプリマス・アーガイルの監督を務めているルーニー監督だが、来年1月からトゥヘル監督がイングランド代表を指揮するという事実について言及。大きな驚きがあったとした。 「彼は非常に優れた監督だと思うが、FAが彼を雇用したことには驚いている」 ルーニー監督は、イングランド代表時代にスヴェン・ゴラン・エリクソン監督、そしてファビオ・カペッロ監督と2人の外国人監督の下でプレー。トゥヘル監督は史上3人目の外国人指揮官となるだけに、選手としてその状況は経験済みだ。 暫定的に指揮を執るリー・カーズリー監督は、世代別のイングランド代表で実績を残しており、U-21欧州選手権で優勝を経験していた。 ルーニー監督は、イングランドサッカー協会(FA)が指導者を育成している現状について言及。その中から新たなイングランド代表監督を選ばなかったことに驚いているとしたが、トゥヘル監督への期待も口にした。 「FAが築き上げてきたもの、そして私はその一員であり、彼らが過去10年、15年かけて築き上げてきたものを直接見てきたが、それは素晴らしいことだった」 「ここは若いコーチたちが活躍する素晴らしい舞台になっており、彼らが自らコーチを雇わないのは驚きだ」 「しかし、彼らは決断を下した。私は彼の幸運を祈るし、彼が我々のために頑張ってくれることを願っている」 2024.10.18 12:55 Fri
