アシュリー・コール氏がU-21イングランド代表のアシスタントコーチに! チェルシーでの仕事も兼任

元イングランド代表のアシュリー・コール氏が、U-21イングランド代表でアシスタントコーチを務めることになった。イギリス『デイリー・メール』が報じている。

現役時代にはアーセナルやチェルシーで活躍し、通算3度のプレミアリーグ優勝や7度のFAカップ優勝、さらにはチャンピオンズリーグやヨーロッパリーグ制覇などあらゆるタイトルを獲得したアシュリー・コール氏。イングランド代表としても107キャップを数え、同国のレジェンドとして認知されている。

2019年夏の引退後は、解説を務める傍ら、UEFAのA級ライセンス取得を目指しながらチェルシーのU-15チームの監督を続けている。

そんなアシュリー・コール氏にオファーをかけたのが、27日にイングランドU-21代表監督に着任したリー・カーズリー氏だ。現役時代にダービー・カウンティやエバートンで活躍し、アイルランド代表で40試合に出場した同氏は昨年9月からU-20の監督を務めていたが、候補のソル・キャンベル氏との一騎討ちを制し、昇格を果たした。

『デイリー・メール』によると今回の任命は、FA(イングランドサッカー協会)がBAMEの指導者に機会を与えることに力を入れているという背景があるという。また、将来的に同氏がA代表に携わるための準備とも捉えられている。

なお、アシュリー・コール氏はチェルシーでの仕事と兼任となるようだ。

北中米W杯の欧州予選組み合わせ決定! 12カ国+POの4カ国が出場権獲得、来年3月からスタート【2026年北中米W杯欧州予選】

「泣きながら電話した」アルコール依存症に苦しむ元イングランド代表ガスコイン氏が家を出て居候に、それでも闘病に決意「戦い続ける」

イングランド代表が新ユニフォームを発表、赤ではなくなったアウェイは賛否分かれる「初めてじゃないか?」「そのチョイスはなしだ」
