3日に現役引退を発表した元クロアチア代表FWマリオ・マンジュキッチ(35)だが、最後までキャリアを続ける可能性を模索していたようだ。スペイン『アス』が報じた。母国のマルソニアでプロキャリアをスタートしたマンジュキッチは、NKザグレブ、ディナモ・ザグレブという国内の名門クラブを経て2010年にヴォルフスブルクに加入。そして、2012年にはドイツの盟主バイエルンへステップアップを果たすと、主力ストライカーとして2012-13シーズンのブンデスリーガ、チャンピオンズリーグ(CL)、DFBポカールのシーズントレブルに貢献した。
その後、アトレティコ・マドリーを経て2015年にユベントスに加入すると、本職のセンターフォワードに加え、左ウイングで新境地を開き4度のセリエA優勝などに貢献。その後、アル・ドゥハイル、ミランでのプレーを経て現役引退の運びとなった。
35歳での引退、まだまだプレーできる可能性があった中での決断となったが、最後のプレー場所としてはインドが浮上していたようだ。
インド・スーパーリーグは、11日まで移籍市場が開いている。そして、実際に獲得のオファーも届いていたようだが、高いサラリーがネックとなったようだ。

「史上最悪」「恥ずかしい」伝統の市松模様が史上最大サイズになったクロアチアの新ユニフォームには酷評の嵐「これ以上酷いものは見たことがない」
