カンボジアサッカー連盟(FFC)は24日、ネフチ・バクーへと加入したMF本田圭佑との契約を2023年まで延長することを発表した。本田は2018年からカンボジア代表の実質的監督に就任。資格がないことからゼネラルマネージャー(GM)となり、フェリックス・アウグスティン・ゴンザレス・ダルマスが監督に就任した。
そこから現役選手ながらカンボジア代表で指揮を執っていた本田。ここまで13試合で3勝2分け8敗の成績だった。
カンボジア代表とともにU-23カンボジア代表を率いていた本田は、2019年のSea Games(東南アジア競技大会)で準決勝に進出。ベトナム代表に敗れ4位に終わったが、過去最高の成績を残していた。
本田は自身のツイッターでこの件を報告。「カンボジアがホストするシーゲームにあたり、2023年までカンボジア代表と契約を延長したことを光栄に思います」と喜びをあらわにしていた。

高卒でポルトガルへ! ポルティモネンセが高校サッカー選手権優勝の山梨学院高校MF廣澤灯喜を獲得
