イルハン・マンスズの名を覚えているだろうか。
今から20年前の2002年に日韓ワールドカップが開催。国中がサッカーに沸いた中、その中でもひと際注目を集めたのが、当時イングランド代表だったデイビッド・ベッカム氏だ。日本では“ベッカム・フィーバー”が巻き起こり、その髪型を模したモヒカンヘアーも流行った。
そして、もう1人“イケメン”として脚光を浴びたのがトルコ代表だったイルハンだ。
「イルハン王子」の愛称で女性を中心にファンを獲得し、テレビや雑誌でも特集がなされた。長髪をなびかせながら頭の上で髪の毛をとめるちょんまげスタイルにクシャっとした笑顔は多くの人のハートを撃ち抜いた。
ピッチの上でも、控えという立場ながら全7試合に出場すると、チーム最多の3得点をマーク。トルコの史上初の3位という結果に大きく貢献している。
そのイルハンは大会後の2004年にヴィッセル神戸へと加入。Jリーグでは負傷の影響もありほとんど出場機会もないまま、最終的には無断帰国という形での退団となったが、その意味でも記憶に残っている人はいるのではないだろうか。
現役引退後にはフィギュアスケーターへの転身も明らかになったイルハン。46歳になったイルハンのSNSを覗くとすっかり“イケオジ”になったようだ。
トルコ代表の公式SNSや現地のメディアなどは22日、「今から20年前、イルハンのゴールで代表が準決勝に進出」と当時を振り返っており、現地では、代表チームを史上初のW杯3位に導いた英雄として認識されているようだ。

欧州サッカー連盟(UEFA)は13日、2026年北中米ワールドカップ(W杯)欧州予選の組み合わせ抽選会を実施した。
アメリカ、カナダ、メキシコの3カ国が共催する次のW杯。これまでの32カ国から、48カ国に出場国が増加し、規模が大きくなった初の大会となる。
アジア、南米、アフリカではすでにW杯予選がスタートしている中、ヨーロッパはUEFAネーションズリーグ(UNL)が開催されており、ここから本格的に予選がスタートする。
12のグループに分かれて行われる欧州予選。各グループの1位はW杯出場権を獲得。グループ2位の12カ国はプレーオフに進出し、その中から4カ国が出場権を獲得。ヨーロッパからは合計16カ国が出場することとなる。
UNLの準々決勝以降はまだ行われていないため、一部のグループは組み合わせが決まっていない中、確定しているグループもある。
イングランド代表はグループKに入り、5カ国で戦うことに。セルビア代表、アルバニア代表、ラトビア代表、アンドラ代表と同居した。
また、ベルギー代表はグループJに入り、ウェールズ代表、北マケドニア代表、カザフスタン代表、リヒテンシュタイン代表と同居している。
欧州予選は2025年3月から11月までの5回のインターナショナル・マッチウィークで行われることに。4カ国で組まれているグループAからFまでは9月まで予選が行われないこととなる。

ユベントスは12日、バイエルンユース出身のU-17トルコ代表MFケナン・ユルディズ(17)の加入を発表した。契約期間は2025年6月までの3年間となる。
ケナン・ユルディズはドイツのバイエルン州レーゲンスブルクで生まれ育った17歳。中盤の攻撃的なポジションを得意とするファンタジスタだ。バイエルンには7歳から在籍しており、2021-22シーズンはU-19チームを主戦場としていた。また、母親がトルコ出身であることから、世代別代表では同国代表でのプレーを選択している。
先月30日付でバイエルンとの契約が満了となっており、かねてよりユベントスやバルセロナといったビッグクラブからの関心が寄せられていた逸材ケナン・ユルディズ。当面の間はU-19やU-23チームに身を置くと考えられ、近い将来のファーストチーム入りが期待されている。

トルコ代表のDFメリフ・デミラルが受けた代償はかなり大きなものとなってしまった。
欧州サッカー連盟(UEFA)は5日、ゴールパフォーマンスが問題視されていたデミラルに対し、2試合の出場停止処分を下すことを決定した。
これにより、ユーロ2024でベスト8に勝ち上がっているトルコだが、準々決勝のオランダ代表戦、そして準決勝と出場停止に。決勝に進んだ場合は出場が可能となる。
デミラルは、2日に行われたラウンド16のオーストリア代表相手に2ゴールを記録。チームの1-2の勝利に貢献していた。
しかし、2点目のゴールパフォーマンスが問題。デミラルはゴールを祝う際に両手を高く上げ、その手をいわゆる「キツネ」のようにしていたが、これが「狼の敬礼」と見られている。
「狼の敬礼」は、トルコの与党連合政党である国民運動党とつながりのある極右過激派グループ「灰色の狼」に由来するジェスチャーとされており、UEFAが問題視。その結果、2試合の出場停止となった。
デミラルは、UEFAから行動規範の一般原則に従わなかったこと、礼儀正しい行動の基本ルールに違反したこと、スポーツイベントを非スポーツ的な性質の表現に利用したこと、そしてサッカーというスポーツの評判を落としたことで告発されていた。

かつてチェルシーやニューカッスルなどに在籍したガーナ代表FWクリスティアン・アツが、現地時間6日に発生したトルコ南東部での大地震に巻き込まれたことが判明した。フランス『フット・メルカート』は地元メディア『Star』の情報を引用して報じている。
トルコでは現地時間6日早朝にカフラマンマラシュ州を震源にマグニチュード7.8の地震が発生。この地震により多くのビルが倒壊し、爆発的火災なども発生しており、トルコ国内では少なくとも912名の命が奪われ、死者はさらに増える可能性があるとのこと。
そして、報道によると、2022年9月からスュペル・リグ(トルコ1部)のハタイスポルに所属するアツも、この地震の被災者の一人となっているようだ。
『Star』によれば、現在アツはハタイスポルのタネル・サフトSD(スポーツディレクター)と共に崩壊した瓦礫の下敷きとなっており、救助隊が彼らの救助に当たっているとのこと。
なお、同じく瓦礫の下敷きとなっていたDFブラク・オクスズとFWベルトゥグ・ユルディリムは、技術スタッフ2名とともに瓦礫の中から引き上げられたとのことだ。
