22日(現地時間21日)、ワールド・ベースボール・クラシック(WBC)の決勝が行われ、日本はアメリカと対戦し3-2で勝利。14年ぶり3度目の優勝を果たした。
日本の一致団結した戦いは多くの称賛を集めたが、それはグラウンドの中だけには留まらなかった。
アメリカの独立リーグ、ミズーラ・パドルヘッドのマイケル・シュラクト監督が自身のツイッターを更新。「日本のダグアウトの綺麗さに驚く時間をとらないか?!」とし、日本のベンチを捉えた画像を投稿した。
大谷翔平(ロサンゼルス・エンゼルス)と通訳の水原一平氏が会話を交わしているが、床にはゴミ1つ落ちていなかった。
すると、これに『ESPN』のマイケル・イーブス記者が反応。「W杯で彼らがロッカールームを出た時と同じだ」と綴ったのだ。
カタールW杯では、日本のロッカールームが度々話題に。綺麗に片付けるだけではなく、折り紙の鶴と感謝の手紙を残して去っていったほか、サポーターたちがゴミ拾いする姿が世界で注目を集めていた。
競技は違えど、その行動で称賛を集めた日本代表。シュラクト監督の投稿には、ファンからも「信じられない」、「これが日本の文化なんだ」、「尊敬する」、「感銘を受けた」といったコメントが寄せられており、反響を呼んでいる。

レアル・ソシエダに所属する日本代表MF久保建英がスポンサーのPRに一役買っている。
ソシエダは、スペインで日本のトヨタ自動車のディーラーを務める「エウスコアウト」とパートナーシップ契約を締結。さらに、「Realzale Programa」というプログラムに参加したことを5日に発表した。
これにより、ソシエダのクラブ会員や株主などは「エウスコアウト」で新車を購入した際などにポイント還元などの特典を得られるという。
クラブの公式SNSでもそのことを紹介。PRには久保が起用され、黒のTシャツにベージュのハーフパンツという私服姿の久保が、黒のトヨタ車の前で12番のユニフォームを掲げ、ファンにアピールしている。
この1枚には日本のファンもこぞって反応。「日本が誇るコラボ素敵」、「爽やか!」、「私もトヨタの車に乗っています!」、「かっこいい」と言葉を寄せている。

テゲバジャーロ宮崎の元日本代表FW工藤壮人が、10月21日14時50分に死去した。32歳だった。
工藤は2日の練習時間外に体調不良を訴え、翌3日に医療機関の検査で水頭症の診断を受けて入院。11日に手術を受けて療養中だったが、容態が悪化し、17日からICU(集中治療室)にて治療に専念していることが18日にクラブから発表されていた。
水頭症とは、「脳室に髄液が過剰に溜まってしまったために脳を圧迫し、さまざまな症状を引き起こしてしまう疾患」とされており、くも膜下出血や脳出血、頭部外傷、髄膜炎などの頭蓋内疾患に引き続いて起こってしまうものもあるという。
治療に専念していた工藤には、古巣のクラブや元チームメイトを含むサッカー界からも多くの励ましのメッセージが届き、所属したクラブやその他のクラブのファンも回復を願っていたが、帰らぬ人となった。
工藤の訃報を受け、かつて所属した古巣が追悼のメッセージを送っている。
工藤がU-12から過ごし、トップチームでも活躍した柏レイソルはツイッターで「15年間広報をさせてもらってきて一番辛い仕事です。心よりご冥福をお祈りします」と追悼。柏では、公式戦通算262試合で92ゴール28アシストを記録した。
また、2017年から2020年まで在籍したサンフレッチェ広島は、22日のYBCルヴァンカップ決勝に工藤と共に戦うとしていた中での訃報を受け、言葉が出ません。謹んでご冥福をお祈りします。」とツイッターで追悼。広島では公式戦44試合で12ゴール2アシストを記録した。
さらに、広島在籍時に1年間期限付き移籍でプレーしたレノファ山口FCもツイッターにて「信じられません。謹んでご冥福をお祈りします。」と追悼。山口では公式戦29試合で5ゴール1アシストを記録していた。
その他、海外からも追悼メッセージが。メジャーリーグ・サッカー(MLS)のバンクーバー・ホワイトキャップスは「ホワイトキャップスFCは工藤壮人の逝去を悼みます」とし、「工藤選手のご家族、ご友人の皆様には、この難しい時にお悔やみを申し上げます」と追悼。バンクーバーでは公式戦19試合で3ゴール2アシストを記録していた。
早すぎる死には、多くのサッカー関係者も悲しみと共に追悼するメッセージを送っている。

ワールドカップ(W杯)の熱気を冷ましてしまうのはもったいない。
日本代表の活躍も記憶に新しいカタールW杯はアルゼンチン代表の優勝で閉幕したが、サッカーファンにはとっては高校サッカー、インカレ、皇后杯など、まだまだイベントが続く。
23日には来季のJリーグ開幕節の日程も発表に。さらにJリーグは翌日、公式SNSで開幕へ向けたプロモーションビデオを公開した。
各W杯戦士がJリーグチームに在籍していた際の懐かしいユニフォームをファンが着用し、試合を注視。さらに当時の映像に加え、ラストにはサプライズも盛り込まれてる。
「Jリーグから巣立った選手たちが、カタールで戦っていた。」
「祭りが終わって、もうすぐ日常が始まる。」
「次の主役たちは、たぶん、私たちの日常の中にいる。もしかしたら、いつものスタジアムのピッチに。」
「また、ここから始めよう。」
「四年後じゃない。二ヶ月後だ。」
「2023年2月17日、Jリーグ開幕。」
近年では新卒で海外挑戦をする選手や海外クラブの育成組織へ加入するプレーヤーも増加しているが、カタールW杯を戦った日本代表26選手は全員がJリーグ経験者。中にはJ3でのプレー経験を持つ選手もいる。
過去から未来へとつながる映像には、ファンからも「素晴らしいムービーありがとうございます」、「感動したわ」、「泣かせますやん」、「2ヶ月後とか待ちきれないな」などの声が届けられたほか、現役選手やOBからも大きな反響が寄せられている。

ドイツでトレーニングキャンプを行っている日本代表。23日に行われたアメリカ代表戦を2-0で勝利し、27日にはエクアドル代表との一戦を控えている。
日本サッカー協会(JFA)の公式YouTubeチャンネルは27日、エクアドル戦に向けての練習や選手たちの様子を公開。その中でスタッフたちを爆笑させる出来事があった。
地元のインターナショナルスクールに通う日本人や小学生中心の子供たちと交流した日本の選手たち。DF長友佑都(FC東京)もたくさんの子供と会話を交わしていた。
その中で、話題は子供たちが日本の選手たちを知っているのかという話に。すると、1人の男の子が「名前は知らないけど、見たことある。テレビで」と明かし、長友は「ありがとう」とハイタッチを交わしていた。
ここまではとても可愛らしいやり取りであったが、他に「図鑑に写ってる」という声も。長友が「図鑑に載ってた!?」と驚くと、周囲は「ゴリラ!?」と爆笑。さらに、DF吉田麻也(シャルケ)も「動物の図鑑?化石の図鑑じゃない?」と乗っかっていた。
図鑑とはもしかしたら選手名鑑のことだったのかもしれないが、子供と長友のやり取りは大きな笑いを生んでいた。
