イルハン・マンスズの名を覚えているだろうか。
今から20年前の2002年に日韓ワールドカップが開催。国中がサッカーに沸いた中、その中でもひと際注目を集めたのが、当時イングランド代表だったデイビッド・ベッカム氏だ。日本では“ベッカム・フィーバー”が巻き起こり、その髪型を模したモヒカンヘアーも流行った。
そして、もう1人“イケメン”として脚光を浴びたのがトルコ代表だったイルハンだ。
「イルハン王子」の愛称で女性を中心にファンを獲得し、テレビや雑誌でも特集がなされた。長髪をなびかせながら頭の上で髪の毛をとめるちょんまげスタイルにクシャっとした笑顔は多くの人のハートを撃ち抜いた。
ピッチの上でも、控えという立場ながら全7試合に出場すると、チーム最多の3得点をマーク。トルコの史上初の3位という結果に大きく貢献している。
そのイルハンは大会後の2004年にヴィッセル神戸へと加入。Jリーグでは負傷の影響もありほとんど出場機会もないまま、最終的には無断帰国という形での退団となったが、その意味でも記憶に残っている人はいるのではないだろうか。
現役引退後にはフィギュアスケーターへの転身も明らかになったイルハン。46歳になったイルハンのSNSを覗くとすっかり“イケオジ”になったようだ。
トルコ代表の公式SNSや現地のメディアなどは22日、「今から20年前、イルハンのゴールで代表が準決勝に進出」と当時を振り返っており、現地では、代表チームを史上初のW杯3位に導いた英雄として認識されているようだ。

欧州サッカー連盟(UEFA)は13日、2026年北中米ワールドカップ(W杯)欧州予選の組み合わせ抽選会を実施した。
アメリカ、カナダ、メキシコの3カ国が共催する次のW杯。これまでの32カ国から、48カ国に出場国が増加し、規模が大きくなった初の大会となる。
アジア、南米、アフリカではすでにW杯予選がスタートしている中、ヨーロッパはUEFAネーションズリーグ(UNL)が開催されており、ここから本格的に予選がスタートする。
12のグループに分かれて行われる欧州予選。各グループの1位はW杯出場権を獲得。グループ2位の12カ国はプレーオフに進出し、その中から4カ国が出場権を獲得。ヨーロッパからは合計16カ国が出場することとなる。
UNLの準々決勝以降はまだ行われていないため、一部のグループは組み合わせが決まっていない中、確定しているグループもある。
イングランド代表はグループKに入り、5カ国で戦うことに。セルビア代表、アルバニア代表、ラトビア代表、アンドラ代表と同居した。
また、ベルギー代表はグループJに入り、ウェールズ代表、北マケドニア代表、カザフスタン代表、リヒテンシュタイン代表と同居している。
欧州予選は2025年3月から11月までの5回のインターナショナル・マッチウィークで行われることに。4カ国で組まれているグループAからFまでは9月まで予選が行われないこととなる。

ユベントスは12日、バイエルンユース出身のU-17トルコ代表MFケナン・ユルディズ(17)の加入を発表した。契約期間は2025年6月までの3年間となる。
ケナン・ユルディズはドイツのバイエルン州レーゲンスブルクで生まれ育った17歳。中盤の攻撃的なポジションを得意とするファンタジスタだ。バイエルンには7歳から在籍しており、2021-22シーズンはU-19チームを主戦場としていた。また、母親がトルコ出身であることから、世代別代表では同国代表でのプレーを選択している。
先月30日付でバイエルンとの契約が満了となっており、かねてよりユベントスやバルセロナといったビッグクラブからの関心が寄せられていた逸材ケナン・ユルディズ。当面の間はU-19やU-23チームに身を置くと考えられ、近い将来のファーストチーム入りが期待されている。

かつてチェルシーやニューカッスルなどに在籍したガーナ代表FWクリスティアン・アツが、現地時間6日に発生したトルコ南東部での大地震に巻き込まれたことが判明した。フランス『フット・メルカート』は地元メディア『Star』の情報を引用して報じている。
トルコでは現地時間6日早朝にカフラマンマラシュ州を震源にマグニチュード7.8の地震が発生。この地震により多くのビルが倒壊し、爆発的火災なども発生しており、トルコ国内では少なくとも912名の命が奪われ、死者はさらに増える可能性があるとのこと。
そして、報道によると、2022年9月からスュペル・リグ(トルコ1部)のハタイスポルに所属するアツも、この地震の被災者の一人となっているようだ。
『Star』によれば、現在アツはハタイスポルのタネル・サフトSD(スポーツディレクター)と共に崩壊した瓦礫の下敷きとなっており、救助隊が彼らの救助に当たっているとのこと。
なお、同じく瓦礫の下敷きとなっていたDFブラク・オクスズとFWベルトゥグ・ユルディリムは、技術スタッフ2名とともに瓦礫の中から引き上げられたとのことだ。

日本代表のMF伊東純也(スタッド・ランス)が、キリンチャレンジカップ2023のトルコ代表戦を振り返った。
12日、日本はベルギーの地でトルコと対戦した。9日にはアウェイでのドイツ代表との親善試合で1-4と快勝していた日本。欧州遠征2連勝、親善試合4連勝を目指しての戦いとなった。
森保一監督は、戦前の言葉通り先発10名を入れ替えてトルコ戦に臨むことに。すると15分に堂安律とのワンツーから伊藤敦樹が度肝を抜くミドルシュートで日本代表初ゴールを決める。
幸先良く先制した日本は、28分には久保建英の強烈ミドルのこぼれ球を中村敬斗が詰めて追加点。36分には日本代表デビューとなった毎熊晟矢がボール奪取から持ち上がると、横パスを中村が落ち着いて決めて3-0とした。しかし、44分にFKの流れから失点すると、このプレーでGK中村航輔が右肩を負傷し交代。GKシュミット・ダニエルが緊急出場する。
ハーフタイムに日本、トルコともに選手を入れ替えると、主軸が出てきたトルコが主導権を握る展開に。61分にゴールを奪い1点差とするも、日本はGKシュミット・ダニエルが好セーブを連発。すると78分にドリブルで独走してPKを獲得した伊東が、元本拠地でしっかり決めて4-2で勝利を収めた。
試合後、フラッシュインタビューに応じた伊東は、悪い流れの中でのPK獲得シーンについて「押し込まれる展開が後半は多かったですが、最後はスペースがあったので思い切り走ってゴールまで行けて良かったです」とコメント。ドリブルで持ち運んでのカウンターを振り返った。
かつて所属したヘンクの本拠地での試合。伊東はPKを蹴るまでにかなり時間がかかっていたが、「特に何も考えていないです(笑)。とにかく決めようと思っていました」と、狙いがあった訳ではないと明かした。
試合は4-2で勝利。ドイツ戦に続いて4ゴールを奪っての連勝となった。
伊東は「勝ちで終われたことは本当に良かったですが、2失点してしまったので、反省して次に進みたいと思います」とコメント。勝利を喜びながらも、反省点があるとした。
この先は10月に日本で2試合を戦い、11月からは2026年の北中米ワールドカップ予選がスタート。さらに来年1月にはアジアカップが待っている。
「チームとして2試合とも勝てたことは大きなことだと思います」と語った伊東。「個々でもっと成長して、次の試合に臨めればと思います」と、それぞれの選手が所属クラブでレベルアップすることで、再び強いチームになれるだろうと語った。
