女子サッカー界で長らく大きな問題となっており、原因が解明されていないヒザの前十字じん帯(ACL)の問題。イングランドでは、予防を研究するための新たなプロジェクトがスタートするという。
サッカー界においてはケガというのはつきもの。小さなものから大きなものまで、接触プレーやハードなトレーニング、試合を行えば、少なからず発生してしまう。
男女共にケガはつきものだが、女子サッカー界だけで見られる異常な事態がある。それがACLの負傷だ。
その7割は非接触で発生すると言われているが、女子サッカー界ではこの負傷が頻発。とある研究では、男子の2〜6倍のリスクが女子にはあるとされている。
WEリーグでも多くの選手がこの負傷で離脱。昨年の皇后杯では、三菱重工浦和レッズレディースのなでしこジャパンMF猶本光、MF安藤梢が同じ試合で2人ともACLを損傷し、今季絶望という状態となっている。
また、世界に目を向けても多くの選手がACLの問題を抱え、ワールドクラスの選手も多数が離脱。イングランド女子代表キャプテンのリア・ウィリアムソンは2023年の女子ワールドカップを欠場、かつてバロンドールも受賞したスペイン女子代表MFアレクシア・プテジャスはユーロ2022を欠場。大きな大会の出場を逃す選手も珍しくない。
あまりの頻発具合に、「ACL Women Football Club」というX(旧ツイッター/@aclwfc)もあるほど。世界中のACLの負傷の情報を共有しようというアカウントであり、それほどまでに女子サッカー界では大きな問題となっている。
そんな中、イングランドではプロサッカー選手協会(PFA)、FIFPro(国際プロサッカー選手会)、そしてスポーツブランドの「ナイキ」、リーズ・ベケット大学が協力し、ACL損傷の予防を研究する新たな3年間のプロジェクトに資金提供をすることとなった。
このプロジェクトにはFA女子スーパーリーグ(FAWSL)の半数以上のクラブが同意しており、施設やチームの規模に応じたスタッフの数、トレーニング施設へのアクセス頻度、移動やプレーのスケジュールなど多くの要素に基づいて評価していくというもの。女子サッカー選手のACL損傷のリスクを高める環境要因に焦点を当てていくという。
FIFProの女子サッカー戦略・研究責任者であるアレックス・カルビン博士は、「プロジェクトACL」が最終的には世界中のプロリーグに拡大されることを期待している。
「これまでのところ非常に前向きな反応が得られている。シーズン終了時にはさらに多くのWSLクラブが参加することが期待される」
「クラブの賛同は必要ないが、クラブの賛同は本当に望んでいルコと。これは、クラブが女子プロサッカーのより良い未来に貢献する機会だ」
これまでは女性特有の問題と考えられており、月経の周期やスパイクの問題、体の構造など生理学的な要因に焦点が当てられ研究されてきた。
しかし、そこに目を向けていることが誤解を招く可能性もあると考えられ、より体系的に研究していくことにするとのこと。また、選手たちの意見をしっかりと吸い上げて、本人たちが感じていながらも見逃されている問題にもフォーカスしていくことになるという。

イングランドサッカー協会は13日、国際親善に向けた女子代表メンバー名を発表。DFリア・ウィリアムソン(アーセナル)がヒザの前十字じん帯断裂から復帰後、およそ1年ぶりの招集を受けた。
オーストラリア&ニュージーランド女子ワールドカップ(W杯)では準優勝の成績を収めながらも、パリ・オリンピックへの出場権は逃したイングランド。
次なる目標を4月にスタートする女子欧州選手権(ユーロ)2025予選に切り替え、この代表ウイークにはスペインキャンプを決行。23日にオーストリア女子代表、27日にイタリア女子代表とスペインで国際親善試合を行う。
メンバーには大ケガを乗り越えたウィリアムソンが復帰した。26歳のセンターバックは、母国開催のユーロ2022でキャプテンとしてライオネスを初優勝へ導いたが、2023年4月19日のFA女子スーパーリーグ(FAWSL)、マンチェスター・ユナイテッド戦でヒザを負傷。前十字じん帯断裂と診断され、W杯出場を逃していた。
今年に入って1月25日に途中出場ながらも実践復帰を果たすと、4日には先発出場。負傷直前の2023年4月頭以来の代表選出となった。
イングランドを率いるサリナ・ヴィーフマン監督はイギリス『BBC』にて、「何カ月も離脱していたにもかかわらず、彼女の判断力は本当に優れている」と評価した一方、すぐに再びキャプテンを任されるかどうかについては明言を避けた。

アーセナルのイングランド女子代表DFリア・ウィリアムソンのファッションが脚光を浴びている。
代表でもキャプテンを務めるウィリアムソンは、4月にヒザの前十字靭帯断裂という重傷を負い、オーストラリア&ニュージーランド女子ワールドカップ(W杯)出場への道を断たれた。
ただ、復帰へ向けては順調に歩みを進めており、すでにピッチでのボールトレーニングも開始。復帰までは迫っているようだ。
再始動が待たれる26歳DFだが、ピッチに立てない間は、ファッション誌を中心とした種々のイベントに参加。様々な姿がファンの目を楽しませている。
19日にはイギリス『BBC』のBBCスポーツ・パーソナリティー・オブ・ザ・イヤー2023授賞式に出席。スレートグレーのパンツルックスーツ姿には「間違いなく、何でも似合う」、「あなたはモデルです」、「リアとスーツは地球上で最高の組み合わせです」、「みんなが待っていた写真」との声が寄せられるなど、注目を集めた。
11月15日には『GQ Men Of The Year Awards 2023』に出席し、スパンコールで装飾されたシースルーのドレスで登場。11月23日にはイギリス版『Vogue』主催のパーティーでは、大胆に肩を露出させたベアトップ姿を披露した。
一方、『Pride Of Britain』や『Elle Style Awards』ではジャケットスタイルを披露。いずれの着こなしも「素晴らしい!」、「息もできない」、「天使は天国でしか見ることができないと思っていました」など大きな反響を呼んでいる。
アーセナルは今季の公式戦を終え、ウインターブレイクに突入。年明けには完全復活したウィリアムソンが見られるだろうか。

アーセナルは、女子チームに所属するイングランドU-19女子代表DFテヤ・ゴールディ(19)がヒザの前十字靭帯損傷を負ったと発表した。
クラブによると、ゴールディはオフ期間中に負傷。すでに手術を受け、アーセナルトレーニングセンターでリハビリを開始しているとのことだ。
ゴールディは2022年1月に2部のワトフォードへ期限付き移籍。翌月のクラブ月間最優秀選手に選出される活躍を見せたが、3月最初のゲームで左ヒザの前十字靭帯を断裂。このため、早期にレンタルを終了し、アーセナルへと帰還していた。
イギリス『BBC』によれば、今回負傷したのは逆の右足。また同時に、アーセナル女子の選手がこの1年で同様の重傷を負うのは、イングランド女子代表FWベス・ミード、同DFリア・ウィリアムソン、オランダ女子代表FWフィフィアネ・ミーデマ、オーストリア代表DFラウラ・ヴィーンロイターに次ぐ5人目だとして、警鐘を鳴らしている。

オーストラリア&ニュージーランド女子ワールドカップ(W杯)決勝戦、スペイン女子代表vsイングランド女子代表が20日にスタジアム・オーストラリア(シドニー)で行われ、スペインが1-0で勝利。女子W杯初優勝を決めた。
互いに初の決勝進出を果たし、初優勝を目指すスペインとイングランド。両チームともに開幕前には難しい時間があった。
3大会連続3度目のW杯出場と、じわじわと力を付けてきたスペインだが、15選手が協会やホルヘ・ビルダ監督と健康面などの問題でもめ、一時代表から不在に。一定の決着をみたものの、主力だったバルセロナのGKサンドラ・パニョスやDFマリア・ピラー・レオンといった主力が今大会の欠場を表明していた。
それでも、エースのジェニファー・エルモソらがチームを牽引し、グループステージではコスタリカ女子代表、ザンビア女子代表に連勝して早々にノックアウトステージ進出を決めると、なでしこジャパンには大敗を喫したものの、先発メンバーを入れ替えたラウンド16のスイス女子代表戦では5-1と圧勝。準々決勝では延長戦の末にオランダ女子代表を、準決勝ではスウェーデン女子代表を下し、決勝へと駒を進めた。

日本の山下良美主審が第4審を務めることとなった決勝戦は、ポゼッションに勝るスペインが押し込む序盤となったが、先に会場を大きく沸せたのはイングランド。ロスト後に即時奪回を試みるスペインのプレスをかいくぐり、右からのクロスをレイチェル・デイリーが落としてローレン・ヘンプの左足がクロスバーを叩く。
スペインも17分、左からのクロスが正面のサルマ・パラジュエロを抜けてファーのアルバ・レドンドに決定機。だが、シュートはGKの正面に飛んだ。
試合が動いたのは29分。スペインは中盤で人数を掛けて奪い切ると、右サイドバックのオナ・バトジェが素早く左へ展開し、収めたマリオナ・カルデンティがスルーパス。追い越して左ポケットに侵入したオルガ・カルモナが、地を這う左足でのダイレクトシュートで右下隅を射抜いた。
左サイドバックの2試合連続ゴールで先制したスペインは一層自信を持ってボールを回し、37分にセットプレーからイレーナ・パレデスにチャンス。前半終了間際には右クロスから3試合ぶりの先発起用となったパラジュエロの右足シュートが左ポストをかすめ、優位性を保って45分を終えた。
ビハインドのイングランドは後半開始直後に2枚替えで打開を図り、デイリーとアレッシア・ルッソを下げてクロエ・ケリーと2試合の出場停止処分が明けたローレン・ジェームズを投入。2人を両翼、ジョージア・スタンウェイとキーラ・ウォルシュの2ボランチ気味となる[4-2-3-1]へと立ち位置を変える。
GKメアリー・アープスがカルデンティのコントロールショットをセーブすると、徐々に右サイドを使った攻撃が機能し始め、54分にはケリーのクロスからヘンプというシーンを作った。
60分にレドンドに代えてオイアナ・エルナンデスを投入したスペインは、70分に差し掛かろうというタイミングの波状攻撃時、カルデンティの浮いた持ち出しがウォルシュの手に当たると、オン・フィールド・レビュー(OFR)の結果ハンドと判定され、PKを獲得する。
だが、エルモソがこの絶好機で失敗。右下隅へのキックをGKアープスががっちりとキャッチすると、会場は大きくどよめいた。
追加点のチャンスを逸したスペインはセンターバックの一角、ライア・コディナが負傷交代というアクシデントにも見舞われる。一方のイングランドもアレックス・グリーンウッドがパラジュエロとの競り合いでヒザが顔に入り、瞼の上あたりから出血。事なきを得たが、ゲームは大きく中断した。

アーセナルとサプライヤーのアディダスは18日、2023-24シーズンで着用する3rdユニフォームのデザインを発表した。
プレミアリーグを優勝した2003-04シーズンをモチーフにした1stユニフォーム、ショッキングイエローをベースにした攻めた2ndユニフォームをこれまで発表しているアーセナル。3rdキットは緑を基調をとしたレトロスタイルとなる。
1982-83シーズンをオマージュしたという3rdキットは、ミネラルグリーンをベースに肩から袖にかけてを紺、各種ロゴをオフホワイトでまとめた。落ち着いたカラーリングは日常にも違和感なく溶け込んでいる。
男女ともに使用し、プレミアリーグのほか、女子スーパーリーグ(FAWSL)や国内カップ戦、UEFAチャンピオンズリーグ(CL)でも男女チームが着用する予定となっている。
現在のところは10月22日のFAWSLで女子チームがブリストル・シティと対戦する際にお披露目となる予定だが、CLの抽選次第では男子チームが9月にも着用する可能性もあるとしている。
モデルにはウィリアム・サリバやマルティン・ウーデゴールのほか、デクラン・ライスやカイ・ハヴァーツら新加入組も採用され、女子からはリア・ウィリアムソンがPRムービーに登場。そのほかスティーナ・ブラックステニウスらもモデルを務めている。

イギリスのオンラインファッションストア『boohoo』がまとめたGoogleの検索データ分析によると、「ライオネセス キット」で検索された数が爆発的に伸びている。
過去90日間での検索数はこれまでの平均をおよそ3.981%上回っており、倍率にして40倍以上の増加。同様に「ライオネセス シャツ」、「イングランド シャツ」の検索数もそれぞれ3.617%、2.220%増加しているとのことだ。
『boohoo』の広報担当者は「ライオネセスはすでに歴史的成功を収めていると断言できますが、キットの検索結果からもその影響を感じることができます。これを受け、ファッションの観点からもスポーツウエアへの関心はすでに最高潮に達していると言えるでしょう」と、ファッションへの影響も大きいと語る。
各ブランドや各国ともに趣向を凝らし、デザイン性に富んだウエアは増えているものの、やはり結果という広告の影響は計り知れないようだ。
なお、個人別の検索数ではオーストラリア戦で勝ち越しゴールを挙げた長谷川唯の同僚FWローレン・ヘンプ(マンチェスター・シティ)がトップ。次いで、これまで主将を務めながらも今大会はヒザの大ケガで未招集のDFリア・ウィリアムソン(アーセナル)、2022年のザ・ベストFIFA女子GKにも選出されたメアリー・アープス(マンチェスター・ユナイテッド)が続いている。

悲劇も予想された中、イングランド女子代表MFキーラ・ウォルシュは最悪の事態を免れたようだ。
現在開催されているオーストラリア&ニュージーランド女子ワールドカップ(W杯)。イングランドは28日にデンマーク女子代表と対戦した。この試合に先発したバルセロナのウォルシュは、38分に担架で運び出されることに。顔を覆い、周りの選手たちも心配そうに見守っていた。
女子サッカー界では、ヒザの負傷が男子に比べてはるかに頻出。特に前十字じん帯というキャリアに影響を大きく与えかねない重傷が頻発している。
試合中に松葉杖姿でベンチに戻ったウォルシュ。誰もが最悪の事態を想像したなか、サリナ・ヴィーフマン監督は「診断が出るまで待とう」とウォルシュの状態を語っていた。
そんな中、イングランドサッカー協会(FA)が29日に検査の結果を発表。前十字じん帯の損傷はなかったとした。
最悪の事態を免れたウォルシュだが、8月1日の中国女子代表戦は欠場することに。今後もチームに残り、状態を見守っていくことになるという。

20日に開幕を迎えるオーストラリア&ニュージーランド女子W杯。12年ぶりの優勝を目指すなでしこジャパンの活躍はもちろん、現地での盛り上がりも大きいマチルダス(オーストラリア女子代表)や、史上初の3連覇が懸かるアメリカに加え、個人ではブラジル女子代表FWマルタやカナダ女子代表FWクリスティン・シンクレアが前人未踏W杯6大会連続ゴールの可能性を秘めるなど、見どころは多岐に渡る。
一方で、負傷等によりW杯を断念せざるを得なかった選手も多数存在。プレー強度の向上や試合数が増加する中で、ヒザの前十字じん帯(ACL)断裂といった重傷のリリースも頻繁に目にするようになった。
