惜しくも番狂わせとまではならなかった。
14日に行われたチャンピオンズリーグ(CL)グループH第2節、イスラエルのマッカビ・ハイファはホームでパリ・サンジェルマン(PSG)と対戦。先週行われたグループステージ(GS)初戦ではベンフィカに完敗したマッカビ・ハイファだったが、この試合では先に試合を動かした。
24分、中盤でルーズボールをカットしたFWモハメド・アブ・ファニのパスを右サイドで受けたFWドレヴ・ハツィザがアーリークロスを供給すると、これをファーサイドのMFチャロン・チェリーが左足で押し込んだ。
格上と目されている相手からの先制点だけに、ハイファのサポーターは狂喜乱舞。上半身裸で柵に拳をたたき付け、情熱的に抱き合って喜ぶ姿には「負けても勝者だな」、「(ゴールでこれなら)CLで勝ったら彼らは気が狂っただろう」などの声が寄せられた。
ただ、残念ながらその後はFWリオネル・メッシ、FWキリアン・ムバッペ、FWネイマールにゴールを許し、逆転負けを喫したイスラエルの雄。黒星を喫しただけに、「メッシに取られた後のリアクションも逆に見たい」、「彼らはこの後…」など、大歓喜の後にどのような反応を見せたのかを気に掛けるものも多いようだ。
