ナショナル・ウーマンズ・サッカーリーグ(NWSL)のサンディエゴ・ウェーブに所属するアメリカ女子代表FWアレックス・モーガンが、ダルビッシュ有が所属するメジャー・リーグ・ベースボール(MLB)のサンディエゴ・パドレスを応援している。
アメリカ女子代表の点取り屋としてなでしこジャパンの前に幾度も立ちはだかってきたモーガン。今季からは、2019年までアメリカ女子代表監督を指揮していたジル・エリス氏が会長を務める新規参入チーム、サンディエゴ・ウェーブへ加入した。
直近の16日に行われたプレーオフ準々決勝のシカゴ・レッドスターズ戦でも延長後半に決勝ゴールを決める活躍を見せ、チームを準決勝進出に導いた。
そのモーガンは、18日に自身のインスタグラムを更新。夫であるアメリカ人MFセルバンド・カラスコとともに、パドレスの本拠地ペトコパークを訪れ応援する姿を投稿した。
モーガンが訪れたのは15日に行われたドジャースとの地区シリーズ第4戦だったようで、リーグ優勝決定シリーズ進出を決めた歓喜の瞬間を味わったようだ。
モーガンは4月にパドレスの試合の始球式を務め、チームメイトのDFアビー・ダールケンパーとともに見事なノーバン投球を披露していた。
なお、19日にはフィラデルフィア・フィリーズとのリーグ優勝決定シリーズ初戦が開催。ダルビッシュ有が先発し7回2失点で降板している。

17日に行われたチャレンジカップ西地区では、ポートランド・ソーンズFCのMF杉田妃和とも顔を合わせた。試合は杉田に加入後初ゴールを含む2得点を許し、2-3で敗れている。
翌日には同じくサンディエゴに本拠地を構えるMLBのサンディエゴ・パドレスの始球式に登場。前日にはダルビッシュ有が6回2/3を投げて今季初勝利を挙げたマウンドに、チームメイトのDFアビー・ダールケンパーとともに上がった。
見事なノーバン投球を披露した2人。モーガンが始球式の様子を自身のインスタグラムに投稿し「招待してくれてありがとう、パドレス!」と綴れば、パドレスの公式も「いつでもお越しください!」と返している。

ナショナル・ウーマンズ・サッカーリーグ(NWSL)に2022年から参戦するサンディエゴ・ウェーブは13日、アメリカ女子代表FWアレックス・モーガン(32)の加入を発表した。
モーガンは言わずと知れたアメリカ女子代表のエース。現在はオーランド・プライドに所属していたが、新シーズンからサンディエゴ・ウェーブへと活躍の場を移すこととなった。
2010年からアメリカ女子代表としてプレーし、2011年の女子ワールドカップ(W杯)で準優勝。アメリカの最年少選手として準決勝のフランス女子代表戦で初ゴールを決めている。
これまで代表では190試合に出場し115ゴールを記録。2015年、2019年の女子W杯制覇や2012年のロンドン・オリンピックでの金メダルなど輝かしい実績を残している。
今年行われた東京オリンピックには、母親として参加。チームの銅メダル獲得に貢献していた。
サンディエゴ・ウェーブは、モーガンの故郷でもあるカリフォルニア州を本拠地としている。また、2019年までアメリカ女子代表監督を務めた、ジル・エリス氏が会長を務めるクラブであり、新規参入時の有力選手としてチームに加わることとなった。
モーガンはクラブを通じて、新チームへの加入に向けてコメントしている。

国際サッカー連盟(FIFA)は、9月30日にオンラインサミットを開催。男女の国際試合のカレンダーについての議論を行うと発表した。
予てから噂されているワールドカップ(W杯)の開催間隔に関してもこのサミットで議論されるとのことだ。
現在のサッカー界で大きな話題となっているのが、W杯の開催年に関する問題。現行は4年に1度の開催となっているが、これを2年に1度の開催にしようという動きが起きている。
このプランは、今年5月にサウジアラビアが初めて提案した構想。国際サッカー連盟(FIFA)もこれに賛同し、元選手であるマイケル・オーウェンやヤヤ・トゥーレなどを起用して支持を表明し、ジャンニ・インファンティーノ会長は実現可能性を探っている段階だ。
一方で、欧州サッカー連盟(UEFA)のアレクサンデル・チェフェリン会長は猛反対。また、南米サッカー連盟(CONMEBOL)は反対。サウジアラビアも加盟するアジアサッカー連盟(AFC)は賛成と、意見が大きく分かれている状況だ。
FIFAによれば、現在使われている国際サッカーのカレンダーに関して、女子は2023年の終わりまで、男子は2024年に終わることになっており、その先の議論が行われることになる。
男子のW杯は、現在予選が行われているカタールで2022年11月に開催。その後、2026年にカナダ、アメリカ、メキシコの3カ国共催という点まで決定している。
一方の女子は、2023年にオーストラリアとニュージーランドでの共催が決定。その後は未定となっている。
なお、この国際カレンダーを検討するテクニカルアドバイザリーグループは、元アーセナル指揮官のアーセン・ヴェンゲル氏とアメリカ女子代表を率いて2度の女子W杯を制したジル・エリス氏が率いるという。
また今後、オープンな状況で様々な議論を行って決定していくこととなり、ファンを含む利害関係者とも議論を行うとのこと。FIFAが行った調査では、ファンは現状維持を望んでいるという声が多いようだが、果たしてどんな結末を迎えるだろうか。

6日、偉大な1人の名将が1つのキャリアを終えた。アメリカ女子代表を率いていたジル・エリス監督(53)が、アメリカ女子代表のラストマッチを終えた。
アメリカ女子代表は、6日にシカゴで韓国女子代表とフレンドリーマッチを開催。ラストマッチは、1-1の引き分けに終わった。
イングランドのポーツマスで生まれたエリス監督は、当時は女子サッカーが整備されておらず、家族とともにアメリカに移住してからサッカーを始めた。
1984年から87年にかけて、ウィリアム&メアリー大学のチームでプレー。そして、1988年から指導者の道へ進んだ。2000年と2005年にはU-21アメリカ女子代表、2007年と2009年から2010年はU-20アメリカ女子代表で指揮を執り、2008年からはアメリカ女子代表のアシスタントコーチに。その後暫定監督を務め、2014年に正式に監督に就任した。
アメリカ女子代表を率いては、2015年、2019年の女子ワールドカップで連覇。女子ワールドカップで2度優勝した唯一の監督であり、男子を含めてもワールドカップを2度制した2人目の監督となった。

また、これまでアメリカ女子代表を率いた中で、最も試合を行った監督であり、132試合を指揮。通算成績は106勝19分け7敗(引き分けを除いた勝率は93.8%)と圧倒的な成績を残してきた。
特に、ワールドカップ予選と本選では23勝1分け。2度のワールドカップに出場しながら、13勝1分けと一度も負けていなかった。

国際サッカー連盟(FIFA)は23日、ミラノで『ザ・ベストFIFAアワード2019』を開催し、各賞受賞者を発表した。
全世界200以上のメディア、FIFA加盟国の代表監督とキャプテン、ファンの投票によって、選出されるフットボール界で最も栄誉ある賞の1つである各賞。
ザ・ベストFIFAアワードで最も注目を集めるFIFA男子最優秀選手賞には、UEFA欧州最優秀選手賞に輝いたDFヴィルヒル・ファン・ダイク(リバプール/オランダ)と5度同賞を獲得しているFWクリスティアーノ・ロナウド(ユベントス/ポルトガル)を退けたFWリオネル・メッシ(バルセロナ/アルゼンチン)が最多6度目の受賞を果たした。

アメリカ女子代表は30日、ジル・エリス監督(52)が10月退任することを発表した。
ジル・エリス監督は2014年5月にアメリカ女子代表の監督に就任。それまでは同チームのアシスタントコーチやU-20とU-21のアメリカ女子代表を歴任してきた。
米女子代表監督の正式就任以前に2回ほど暫定監督を務めたエリス監督は、翌年のワールドカップでは決勝で日本を5-2で下し、就任から13カ月で世界一に。FIFA(国際サッカー連盟)が認めるその年の女子年間最優秀監督に選ばれた。さらに今夏にフランスで行われた同大会でも決勝でオランダを下し、2連覇を達成した。
エリス監督は在任期間5年半で、102勝18分け7敗という史上最多キャップと勝利数を誇る。「変化は私の人生で常に受け入れられてきたものであり、私や家族にとって適切なタイミング」と語り、大きな感謝の意を示した。
