エミレーツ・FAカップの公式インスタグラムが問いかけた。
ブライトン&ホーヴ・アルビオンの日本代表MF三笘薫が前回王者・リバプール相手に劇的ゴールを決め、一躍全英に名をとどろかせることになる契機となったFAカップ。ブライトンのほか、マンチェスター・シティやマンチェスター・ユナイテッド、トッテナムが勝ち上がり、16強入りを決めている。
公式インスタグラムは15日にある選手の足元のみを掲載。「タトゥーから選手を特定できますか?」と問うた。
リプライで受け付けられた解答には「(アデバヨ・)アキンフェンワ?」という奇をてらったものから、「ソル・キャンベル」、「ラヒーム・スターリング」とタイトル獲得者の選手名をリストアップするものも。中にはゲーム・FIFAゲームシリーズの架空キャラクター「アレックス・ハンター」などのコメントも寄せられた。
正解は明記されていないが、多くのファンが名前を挙げたのは2020-21シーズンにFAカップを制したレスター・シティのイングランド代表MFジェームズ・マディソン。当時も優勝後にタトゥーを入れたことが話題となっていた。
なお、今シーズンの5回戦は2月28日、3月1日に行われ、ブライトンは2部のストーク・シティと、レスターは2部のブラックバーンと、それぞれ28日に対戦する。

リーグ1(イングランド3部)のウィコムに所属するイングランド人FWアデバヨ・アキンフェンワが、プレー以外のシーンで注目を集めた。
アキンフェンワは、世界的に人気を誇るテレビゲーム『FIFA』シリーズで、かつてはフィジカルにおける「力強さ」の能力値が「98」(100点満点)と評価されるなど、世界一のパワーを誇るとしてその名が知られている。
100kgを超える体重とベンチプレスで200kgを持ち上げる異端さで話題となり、イングランドの下部リーグで長らくプレーを続けていながら、世界中で知られている選手の1人だ。
リーグ1で3位に位置するウィコムは8日、リーグ第27節で2位のサンダーランドと対戦。昇格を争うライバルをホームに迎えた。
しかし、試合は後半アディショナルタイムに勝ち越しゴールを奪われる展開に。88分からアキンフェンワも途中出場したなか、ウィコムは同点ゴールを目指す。
そして98分、DFジョー・ヤコブソンが値千金の同点ゴール。決死の同点弾にウィコムの面々は歓喜し、ヤコブソンに覆いかぶさるようにピッチになだれ込んだ。
アキンフェンワはその脇で歓喜の舞を踊ると、次の瞬間、味方たちの山へとダイブ。同点ゴールの喜びを体現した。
100kgを超える巨漢FWが飛び込むシーンには、SNS上のファンも衝撃を受けた模様。「誰か死ぬぞ(笑)」、「これはやばい」、「いやいや骨折するて」、「最高」と選手たちを心配する声やセレブレーションの迫力にハマるコメントが多く寄せられている。
39歳のアキンフェンワだが、今なおれっきとした戦力。今シーズンは途中出場が主ながらも、公式戦23試合に出場して4ゴール1アシストの数字を残している。

マンチェスター・シティは、21日に行われたEFLカップ(カラバオカップ)3回戦でウィコム(イングランド3部)と対戦。ウィコムのイングランド人FWアデバヨ・アキンフェンワは2トップの一角で先発出場した。

“世界最強”のフットボーラーとしてカルト・ヒーロー的な存在となっているFWアデバヨ・アキンフェンワ(38)が、クラブと契約延長したようだ。
世界的に人気を誇るテレビゲーム『FIFA』シリーズで、かつてはフィジカルにおける「力強さ」の能力値が「98」(100点満点)と評価されるなど、世界一のパワーを誇るとしてその名を知られることとなったアキンフェンワ。イングランドの下部リーグで長らくプレーを続けていながら、世界中で知られている選手の1人だ。
アキンフェンワが所属するウィコムは、2019-20シーズンはリーグ1(イングランド3部)に所属。しかし、クラブ創設から133年の歴史で初となる2部への昇格を掴み、来シーズンはチャンピオンシップで戦うこととなる。
そんなウィコムで4シーズンを過ごしたアキンフェンワは、自身のインスタグラムで報告。1年間の契約延長にサインし、2部で戦うことを報告した。
「神に感謝しなければならない。旅は続く。僕はウィコムともう1年サインしたことを誇りに思い、光栄に思う」
「この4年間は、月曜の夜の功績によって壮大なものとなり、さらに多くの思い出を作ることを楽しみにしている」
今シーズンのアキンフェンワは、リーグ1で32試合に出場し10ゴール6アシストを記録。自身にとって初となる2部でのプレーでどのような成績を残すのかに注目だ。
