25日、オーストラリア&ニュージーランド女子ワールドカップ(W杯)グループH第1節のコロンビア女子代表vs韓国女子代表がオーストラリアのシドニー・フットボール・スタジアム(シドニー)で行われ、コロンビアが2-0で勝利した。
2大会ぶり3度目の出場となるコロンビアと、3大会連続4度目の出場となる韓国の一戦。ともに予選では2位の成績で通過。W杯の最高成績もベスト16という状況だ。
コロンビアは[4-5-1]のシステムで、3度目のW杯となるベテランのカタリーナ・ウスメが1トップを務めた。なお、ネルソン・アバディア監督は2試合のベンチ入り禁止処分中であり、指揮はアンへロ・マルシリア氏が代理で務めた。
対する韓国は[3-5-2]のシステム。10番を背負い、かつてはINAC神戸レオネッサやチェルシーでもプレーした“女メッシ”の愛称でも知られるMFチ・ソヨンが先発。2トップはチェ・ユリとソン・ファヒョンが務めた。
グループステージ第1節の最後の試合となったこのカード。試合はコロンビアが主導権を握り、押し込んでいく展開に。韓国も粘りの守備を見せていくが、28分に試合が動く。
コロンビアが波状攻撃を仕掛けると、ボックス内で混戦に。ルーズボールに反応したマヌエラ・バネガスがボレーシュートを放つと、シム・ソヒョンの右腕にヒット。これによりPKが与えられる。
このPKをエースのウスメが冷静にGKの逆をついてゴール。コロンビアが幸先良く先制に成功する。
先制を許してしまった韓国だが、続け様に失点する。39分、ハーフウェイライン付近でルーズボールを競り合うと、拾ったリンダ・カイセドがドリブルスタート。1人で切り裂きボックス付近まで運ぶと、カットインから右足シュート。これはGKユン・ヨングルがセーブかと思われたが、ファンブルしたボールがそのままゴール方向へ。コロンビアがラッキーな形で追加点を奪う。
2点のビハインドを負った韓国だが、なかなか良い形で攻め込めない。それでも前半アディショナルタイム9分にはビッグチャンス。ボックス内左でパスを受けたチェ・ユリが仕掛けてクロス。これをイ・グンミンがボックス内でヘッド。しかし、叩きつけたシュートはGKにセーブされ、ゴールとはならない。
コロンビアの2点リードで迎えた後半も、ゴールに迫ったのはコロンビア。61分、左サイドからのクロスに飛び込んだマイラ・ラミレスがヘッドで合わせるが、これは枠を捉えられない。
なかなか攻め手が見出せない韓国は、今大会最年少であるFWケイシー・フェアをチェ・ユリに代えて投入。16歳26日でのW杯デビューは、史上最年少出場となった。
ただ、韓国は最後までコロンビアを苦しめることができずに試合終了。2-0でコロンビアが勝利を収めた。

ブライトン&ホーブ・アルビオンは9日、2月のクラブ月間最優秀パフォーマンス賞、および月間ベストゴールの各候補一覧を公開した。
月間最優秀パフォーマンス賞の対象となっているのは各試合の4選手。2月4日のプレミアリーグ第22節ボーンマスからは決勝点となるヘディングを決めた日本代表MF三笘薫がノミネートされた。
さらに2月11日の第23節クリスタル・パレス戦で鮮やかな股抜き披露や先制点を奪ったMFソリー・マーチ。2月28日のFAカップ5回戦のストーク・シティ戦からはカップ戦での奮闘が続くGKジェイソン・スティールが候補に挙がっている。
また、各選手のプレー映像が公開される中で、パワフルなプレーに驚きの声が寄せられたのが、女子から唯一ノミネートされたイ・グンミンだ。2月26日の女子FAカップ5回戦コベントリー・ユナイテッド戦では相手を背負ってからの反転シュートや豪快ミドルと、2得点1アシストの大活躍を見せた。
ベストゴールでは前述の三笘、イ・グンミンのミドルに加え、U-21所属のFWルカ・バーリントンが決めた鋭い直接FKと、ストーク戦で三笘のお膳立てからネットを揺らしたFWエバン・ファーガソンのゴールが候補に挙げられている。
