パリ・サンジェルマン(PSG)のアルゼンチン代表FWリオネル・メッシにとってマテ茶は欠かせないもの。
南米のソウルドリンクとして知られるマテ茶。ビタミンやミネラルの含有量が高いマテ茶は、アルゼンチン代表選手たちの間でも愛飲されている。
メッシもカタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)の優勝後のインタビューで「妻と一緒にマテ茶を飲みながら、ゆっくりと優勝の喜びを味わいたい」と語っていたほどのお気に入りだ。
マテ茶は茶漉しがついた専用のストローを差し込んで飲むのだが、メッシはストローも特別なものを使っているようだ。
アルゼンチン『TN』によると、メッシはウルグアイのフェデリコ・ブレシアーニさんにストローの制作を直接依頼。ブレシアーニさんがW杯優勝の記念に特別なものを作ったという。
「直接連絡してきたんだ。彼は、自分用のものと家族に贈る用のものをと言ってきました。W杯の開催期間中だった。そして、決勝のタイミングで、この機会にボンビージャ(ストロー)を作ってあげようと思いついんだ」

「ルイス・スアレスのおかげで、彼は私たちと知り合った。何年か前に私たちが作った最初のマテ茶を彼に渡した。他の選手同様に謙虚な姿勢に感心させられたんだ。その写真を彼のインスタグラムにアップされたのが、なんだか誇らしかった」
カタールで悲願のW杯優勝を果たしたメッシ。歓喜のマテ茶はさぞ美味しかったのではないだろうか。

カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)で優勝し、悲願のトロフィーを獲得したアルゼンチン代表FWリオネル・メッシ。試合後にはそのトロフィーを掲げるメッシの姿や、家族と一緒に喜びを共有する姿が印象的だった。
メッシと喜びを分かち合っていたのは、妻のアントネラ・ロクソさん。2人はともにアルゼンチンのロサリオ出身で、メッシは1987年6月24日に、ロクソさんは1988年2月26日生まれ。同学年ということになる。
2人の出会いは5歳の時。メッシが幼少期を過ごしたクラブ、ニューウェルス・オールドボーイズでプレーした際のチームメイトの従姉妹がロクソさんだったという。そういう意味では、2人は小さい時からの幼馴染だ。
メッシは出会った時から一目惚れしていたことを後に明かしていたが、交際がスタートしたのは17歳頃。ロクソさんの友人が事故死しショックを受けていた時に、当時バルセロナに所属していたメッシがわざわざアルゼンチンに戻って励ましたのだ。そのことがきっかけとなり交際へと発展した。
そこからロクソさんがスペインへと移住すると、2012年11月には長男のチアゴくんが誕生。さらに2015年9月には次男のマテオくんが誕生。2人は事実婚状態を継続していたが、2017年6月にはとうとう故郷のロサリオで挙式して入籍。その後3男のシロくんも誕生している。
メッシは35歳。ロクソさんとは30年来の仲ということになる。ずっとメッシを支えてきたロクソさんにとっても、W杯優勝の喜びは図りしれないものだったのではないだろうか。

インテル・マイアミのウルグアイ代表FWルイス・スアレスがまたしても噛み付き行為を見せてしまった。
スアレスといえば噛み癖がある選手として知られ、アヤックス時代の2010年にはPSV戦でオットマン・バッカルの左肩を噛んで7試合の出場停止処分を受けた。
リバプール移籍後の2013年にはチェルシー戦でブラニスラフ・イバノビッチの腕に噛み付き、10試合の出場停止に。さらに、ウルグアイ代表としても2014年のブラジル・ワールドカップのイタリア代表戦でジョルジョ・キエッリーニの左肩に噛みつき、ウルグアイ代表として9試合の出場停止、さらに4カ月のサッカー活動禁止処分を受けていた。
その後は噛み付き行為が話題になることはなかったスアレスだったが、10日に行われたCONCACAFチャンピオンズカップ準々決勝2ndレグのロサンゼルスFC(LAFC)戦でまさかの行為に出ていた。
LAFC戦の89分にピッチ上で乱闘が発生。リオネル・メッシに対する激しいファウルの後、両チームが揉み合うことに。するとその中に他スアレスが、自身を掴む横の選手の右手指に噛みつこうとした。
左手ではしっかりと首をホールドし、逃げられないようにした上で噛み付いた相手は、なんとチームメイト。元スペイン代表DFジョルディ・アルバに噛みついてしまい、フランス代表FWオリヴィエ・ジルーが心配して駆け寄る状態となった。
スアレスも同じピンク色のユニフォームが目に入ったのか、驚いた顔を見せていたが、10年以上経って再び噛み付きで話題になるとは予想外の出来事。今回の行動で処分が下されることはなさそうだが、38歳を迎えても癖は簡単に治らなそうだ。

IFFHS(国際サッカー歴史統計連盟)が、21世紀で最もプレーした選手のランキングを発表。トップ10には日本人選手もランクインした。
様々な統計を行うIFFHS。2022年までのデータを集計し、21世紀に入ってからのプレーした試合数をもとにランキングを作成した。
対象となるのは、各国のリーグ戦やカップ戦、国際カップ戦、代表チームの試合も含まれ、全ての公式戦が対象になっている。
今回の統計では1000試合以上プレーした選手が3人に増加。首位は昨年と変わらず、サウジアラビアへ活躍の場を移したポルトガル代表FWクリスティアーノ・ロナウド(アル・ナスル)となり、1145試合を記録した。
2022年に1000試合を突破したのは、ブラジル代表DFダニエウ・アウベス(UNAMプーマス)とアルゼンチン代表FWリオネル・メッシ(パリ・サンジェルマン)。アウベスは1033試合、メッシは1003試合となった。メッシはカタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)での試合で1000試合を超えたことになる。
そんな中、8位には日本人がランクイン。941試合に出場したMF遠藤保仁(ジュビロ磐田)だ。遠藤はガンバ大阪と磐田、そして日本代表での試合が21世紀に含まれている。なお、アジア人でも唯一となり、900試合以上を達成しているのも12名となっている。

元アルゼンチン代表FWのガブリエル・バティストゥータ氏が久々のゴールを決めた。
現役時代、1991年から2000年まで在籍したフィオレンティーナで168ゴールを挙げた往年の名ストライカーのバティストゥータ氏。アルゼンチン代表としてもワールドカップ(W杯)で通算10得点をマーク。リオネル・メッシに抜かれるまでの代表記録であり、そのうちの1つは1998年のフランスW杯で日本から決めたものだ。
2005年の現役引退後はサッカー界から離れて畜産を営み、建設会社を経営、ポロの選手としての活動なども行っていたバティストゥータ氏だが、現役時代の酷使の影響で関節の痛みに苦しみ、2019年には左足首を人工関節にする手術も受けていた。
そこから4年が経過し、54歳を迎えたバティストゥータ氏だが、足はかなり回復しているようだ。
バティストゥータ氏は、イタリアのトスカーナの洪水被害を支援するためのチャリティーマッチに出場。もちろんストライカーとして出場すると、26分にはボックス外から芸術的なミドルシュートでゴール。さらに48分には味方のシュートのこぼれ球を頭で押し込んだ。
