アメリカ代表FWヘスス・フェレイラ(FCダラス/22)が同国代表史上初となる2試合連続ハットトリックを達成した。
アメリカは現在、アメリカとカナダの共催で行われているCONCACAFゴールドカップ2023に参戦中。ヘスス・フェレイラは現地時間6月28日に行われたグループステージ第2節のセントクリストファー・ネイビス代表戦(6-0〇)に先発出場し、ハットトリックを達成した。
さらに続く2日の第3節、トリニダード・トバゴ代表戦(6-0〇)にも先発出場。前半だけで再び3得点を挙げ、アメリカ代表史上初の2試合連続ハットトリック達成者となった。
また、ヘスス・フェレイラにとっては代表で通算3度目のハットトリックに。ランドン・ドノバン氏と並び、歴代最多タイの回数となった。なお、女子の歴代最多ハットトリック回数はミア・ハム氏の10回となっている。
新進気鋭のストライカーは、2020年2月1日、コスタリカ代表との国際親善試合で代表デビュー。カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)のメンバー入りも果たし、これまで代表キャップ21試合で14得点という、驚異的な得点力を見せ付けている。
今大会は若手を中心に編成されたメンバーながらも、ヘスス・フェレイラらの活躍により、得失点差でジャマイカ代表を上回ってグループステージを突破。9日の準々決勝に駒を進めた。
アメリカ『ワシントン・ポスト』は「あまり得点することを考えすぎると、それが頭から離れなくなってしまう。だから、試合では自分ができることに集中して試合を楽しむことだけを考えている」と、ヘスス・フェレイラの言葉を伝える。
昨季はメジャーリーグ・サッカー(MLS)の最優秀若手選手にも選出されたヘスス・フェレイラ。強豪国からもコンスタントにゴールを奪えるようになれば、アメリカ史上最高のストライカーへと呼ばれる日も近いだろう。

アメリカ合衆国サッカー連盟(USSF)は18日、2023年のアメリカ年間最優秀選手にFWクリスチャン・プリシック(ミラン/25)が選出されたことを発表した。
今季加入したミランでは、2023年の公式戦22試合に出場し、7得点4アシストを記録。アメリカ代表でも6ゴール3アシストの数字を残し、同代表での年間最多得点者となっていた。
支持率は53%。2位のユヌス・ムサ(ミラン/21.5%)を圧倒した。また、最優秀若手選手にはヴォルフスブルクのFWケビン・パレデスが選出された。
2017年に19歳という史上最年少で同賞に選出されたプリシックは、これが4度目の受賞に。最多タイ記録となり、アメリカ代表のレジェンドであるランドン・ドノバン氏に並ぶ偉業達成となった。
