ヘアスタイルを変更したアメリカ代表MFウェストン・マッケニーの舞台裏が公開された。
カタール入り前は髪の一部を金髪にするアレンジを施していたマッケニー。決戦の地到着後には金髪部分を赤、白、青とアメリカの星条旗に用いられる3色に染め、カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)仕様として気合いを入れていた。
アメリカ代表の公式インスタグラムアカウントは、28日にその舞台裏を公開。ノリノリで施術を受ける24歳の様子を届けている。
散髪ケープにも代表のロゴが入っており、美容師もマッケニーに劣らず特徴的なヘアスタイル。動画には「彼の音楽のテイストは普遍的です」とのコメント以外にも、「理髪師もチームに帯同するんですか?」と素朴な疑問も寄せられた。
ただ、以前も「ルクセンブルク?」、「フランス?オランダ?」などのコメントが集まったように、今回も赤、白、青の3色はフランス国旗に見えるとの意見が多数を占めているようだ。
グループBに属するアメリカは初戦のウェールズ代表戦を1-1、第2節のイングランド代表戦をゴールレスドローで終え、現在2分けの3位。最終節は2位・イラン代表と対戦し、勝てば入れ替わりでグループステージ突破、引き分け以下なら敗退という、混戦ながらもわかりやすい状況だ。

今シーズンはセリエAでは4位につけるも、パッとしないパフォーマンスに終始したユベントスにとっては、なんとかタイトル獲得に成功。選手たちも喜びを露わにしていた。
そんな中、優勝を喜ぶ中で1組のカップルの存在が明らかに。それは、ユベントスのアメリカ代表MFウェストン・マッケニーだった。

アストン・ビラのブラジル代表MFドウグラス・ルイス(26)。どうやら恋人と同時にユベントス移籍が成立する見通しになった。
現在アストン・ビラはD・ルイスの売却を巡ってユベントスと交渉中。
協議は比較的順調とされ、金銭+選手として、ユベントスからアメリカ代表MFウェストン・マッケニー(25)、またU-21イングランド代表MFサミュエル・イリング・ジュニア(20)がビラへ向かうことも予想されている。
D・ルイス本人もユベントス移籍へ前のめりとされるなか、『ガゼッタ・デッロ・スポルト』などイタリア各紙が相次いで、「D・ルイスの恋人もユベントス移籍へ」と報道。
恋人とは、アストン・ビラWFC(女子)に所属する、スイス女子代表FWアリーシャ・レーマン(25)。昨年からD・ルイスと交際しており、SNSのフォロワーが1700万人を超えることでも知られるフットボーラーだ。
レーマン移籍もビラとユベントス間における合意の一環と言うべきか。D・ルイスも年俸500万ユーロ(約8.4億円)の4年契約でユベントスと口頭合意に達しており、遅かれ早かれカップル揃っての移籍が成立するとみられている。
財務が厳しいユベントスだが、D・ルイス獲得に関してはマッケニーらの譲渡が濃厚なため、支払いは最大でも2000万ユーロ(約33.6億円)に留めることができるとされている。

ユベントスがアメリカ代表MFウェストン・マッケニー(26)との契約延長を計画しているようだ。
マッケニーは2021年夏にシャルケから加入すると、初年度から主力の一人に定着。しかし、翌シーズンはクラブが財政難に陥った影響もあり、冬の移籍市場でリーズ・ユナイテッドにレンタル移籍となった。
リーズから復帰した昨夏には、マッシミリアーノ・アッレグリ前監督の構想から外れることに。ところが、MFポール・ポグバのドーピング違反やMFニコロ・ファジョーリの違法賭博行為が発覚してそれぞれ長期出場停止処分を受けたこともあり、急遽チームに戻されると昨シーズンは公式戦39試合に出場した。
それでも、今夏にチアゴ・モッタ監督が就任するとまたもや構想外の扱いに。アストン・ビラや母国復帰などさまざまな噂が流れたが結局残留となり、8月に2026年夏までの契約更新が発表された。
こうした経緯を経て迎えた今シーズンも、やはり主力としてプレー。ここまでセリエAで11試合2ゴール2アシスト、チャンピオンズリーグ(CL)5試合2ゴール、コッパ・イタリア1試合出場と上々の成績を残している。
イタリア『トゥットスポルト』によると、構想外の扱いからの活躍を繰り返すマッケニーについて、ユベントス上層部も高評価。8月に契約更新をしたばかりだが、1年の延長オプションが付随した2028年夏までの新契約締結を計画しているという。
交渉はまだこれからの段階となっており、アメリカ代表MFがどのような決断を下すかも含めて進展が注目される。

アメリカサッカー連盟(USSF)は11日、CONCACAFネーションズリーグ2024-25に臨むアメリカ代表メンバー23名を発表した。
マウリシオ・ポチェッティーノ監督が就任したアメリカ代表。2026年の北中米ワールドカップの開催地でもあり、予選がない中でチームの強化を行っている。
北中米カリブ海サッカー連盟(CONCACAF)が主催するネーションズリーグはアメリカが3連覇中。4連覇を目指し、最後の2試合を戦うこととなる。
20日には準決勝でパナマ代表と、23日にはカナダ代表orメキシコ代表と決勝or3位決定戦を戦うこととなる。
