かつてアーセナルやレアル・マドリーで活躍した元ドイツ代表MFのメスト・エジル氏(36)が、ルーツがあるトルコの政界に進出することになった。『AFP通信』が伝えている。エジル氏はキャリア終盤にトルコのフェネルバフチェ、イスタンブール・バシャクシェヒルでプレーし、2023年に現役を引退した。以降は自身のeスポーツチーム『M10』を運営しつつ、最近では肉体改造に取り組んでいることも話題となっていた。そんななか、元アーセナルMFは23日、旧知のレジェップ・タイイップ・エルドアン大統領が創設した公正発展党(AKP)の議員に選出され、中央決定執行委員会の一員となった。エジル氏は現役時代からエルドアン大統領と親しい関係にあり、2019年に結婚式を行った際には同大統領が付添人として出席していた。また、ドイツ代表としてロシア・ワールドカップ(W杯)に参加する直前には、当時エバートンに在籍していたトルコ代表FWジェンク・トスン、マンチェスター・シティのドイツ代表MFイルカイ・ギュンドアンとともにロンドンで面会。その際に撮られた記念写真が公となったことで、反エルドアン大統領派のドイツ国民やドイツサッカー連盟(DFB)から非難を浴び、この一件が代表引退に大きな影響を与えていた。 2025.02.25 10:10 Tue

シティの今季キャプテン陣は6名に! 主将は引き続きウォーカー、復帰したギュンドアンが副主将に加わる
