PK戦では、クロアチアが2人連続で成功したのに対し、日本は南野拓実、三笘薫が連続で失敗。3人目の浅野拓磨が成功も、4人目の吉田麻也が失敗。クロアチアはしっかりとゴールを決め、1-3で勝利した。
それもそのはず。クロアチアは多くのPK戦をW杯で経験しており、プレッシャーを跳ね除ける力を追っていたのだ。
