ユベントスのリザーブチーム「Next Gen」がセリエB昇格を懸けたプレーオフに挑んでいる。『フットボール・イタリア』が伝える。

ユベントスは12日に来季のチャンピオンズリーグ(CL)参戦を決め、15日にはコッパ・イタリア決勝戦(アタランタ戦)が控える一方、スクデット奪還に失敗し、悶々としたシーズンになっている。

その一方、23歳以下の選手を中心に構成されるリザーブチーム「Next Gen(旧:ユベントスU-23)」は、今季のセリエC・ジローネB(※)を7位でフィニッシュし、現在セリエBへの昇格を懸けたプレーオフに参戦中。トップチームの属するセリエAには上がれないが、セリエBまでなら昇格が可能だ。

(※)イタリア北部のジローネA、中部のジローネB、南部のジローネCで構成。各区ブロック1位がセリエBへ自動昇格となり、2〜10位の計27チーム+コッパ・イタリア・セリエC優勝の1チーム=全28チームが昇格プレーオフへ。28チームから昇格を掴めるのは1チームのみ。一発勝負の1〜2回戦、ホーム&アウェイの3〜4回戦、準決勝、決勝で最大10試合

1回戦から登場のNext Genは、セリエB昇格へ決勝戦まで10試合をこなさねばならない険しい道のり。それでも1回戦を突破し、2回戦でもセリエA経験があるペスカーラを撃破。一歩一歩、ユベントスでトップチーム昇格を目指す若手たちが成果を上げている。

3回戦はジローネC・4位のカセルターナと対戦。2回戦から中2日の14日にホームで1stレグを戦うNext Genだが、勢いそのままに勝利となるか。果たして。

ちなみに、Next Genは28人中25人が23歳以下だが、30代のベテラン選手も3人所属。今季17ゴールとチームの得点源であるイタリア人FWシモーネ・ゲッラは34歳。セリエC通算123ゴールを誇るストライカーだ。

その他、今季トップチームデビューのU-21イタリア代表FWレオナルド・チェッリ(21)、U-21イタリア代表の中心選手MFルイス・ハサ(20)、今季PSVから加入の有望株であるU-21オランダ代表MFリファノ・コメネンシア(20)などが、Next Genで日々奮闘している。
