24日、元スペイン代表FWディエゴ・カペル(35)が自身のSNS上で現役引退を発表した。
セビージャの下部組織で育ち、16歳でファーストチームデビューを飾ったウインガーのカペル。2011年夏までセビージャでプレーすると、その後はポルトガルのスポルティングCPへと移籍。2015年以降はイタリアのジェノアやベルギーのアンデルレヒト、スペイン(当時4部)のエストレマドゥーラ、マルタのビルキルカラ、ギリシャのイロドトスといったクラブを渡り歩いた。
スペイン代表としても2試合の出場経験があるカペルは、2022年夏にイロドトスを退団して以降、無所属の状態が続いていた。
自身のインスタグラムで引退を発表したカペルは「ありがとうサッカー」と題し、自らのキャリアを振り返っている。
「ちょうど今日のような日に僕は16歳で 1 部リーグデビューを飾り、そのほぼ 20 年後、自分の人生において最も美しいステージの1つに終止符を打った。それは僕の期待や(スペインの)アルボックス出身の子供の夢を超越するものだった。家族、そして僕が経験した出来事の1つ1つに付き合ってくれた全ての人に感謝したい」

▽かつてセビージャで一世を風靡した元スペイン代表MFディエゴ・カペル(30)が、スペイン2部のエストレマドゥーラUDに加入した。契約期間は2年間となる。
▽カペルは、セビージャの下部組織出身で、クラブ史上2番目の若さでトップチームデビュー。2007年にプロ契約を交わすと、プロ1年目にブレイク。すぐさまビッグクラブへの移籍が噂されたものの、セビージャに残留。しかし、その後は試合にこそ出場するも、活躍とまでは至らなかった。
▽2011年にはスポルティング・リスボンへと移籍すると、2015年にはジェノアに移籍。2016年からはアンデルレヒトでプレーしていたが、2017年8月に退団すると1年間無所属状態が続いた。
▽リーガエスパニョーラで127試合に出場し6ゴール12アシストを記録。チャンピオンズリーグで16試合に出場、ヨーロッパリーグでも31試合に出場し2ゴール11アシストを記録している。
▽エストレマドゥーラは、U-21日本代表GK山口瑠伊がBチームに所属しており、2018-19シーズンから2部に初昇格を果たしている。
