まだ19歳のペドリだが、2020-21シーズンは夏のユーロ2020や東京オリンピックにも出場し、驚異の公式戦75試合に出場。今季はケガで長期離脱があったものの、2022年に入り復帰を果たすと、すぐさまチャビ・エルナンデス監督率いるバルサでも欠かせぬ存在となっている。
そのペドリは27日にカンプ・ノウで行われたラ・リーガ第26節のアスレティック・ビルバオ戦にも先発出場すると、攻守に渡って躍動。アスレティックのハイプレスをものともせずに長短交えたパスで相手を翻弄し、チームのリズムを作った。
そして、19歳の天才が最も観客を沸かせたのが79分の場面だ。左サイドでボールを持ったペドリは、相手DFミケル・バレンシアガに寄せられるも、上手く体を使ってボールをキープ。タッチラインを割ってしまいになるも、次の瞬間に右足ヒールを使ってバレンシアガを股抜き。完全に相手の意表を突き、突破に成功した。
この妙技には間近で観ていた観客も大興奮。席を立って絶叫する様子が中継カメラに映されていた。
試合終了間際の90分にも、ゴールにつながる圧巻のサイドチェンジでスタンドを沸かせたペドリ。末恐ろしい19歳の将来からも目が離せない。
