アスレティック・ビルバオに所属するスペイン人DFミケル・バレンシアガ(35)が、今季限りで退団することを発表した。
ソシエダの下部組織出身のバレンシアガは、2008年夏に一度目のアスレティック移籍をした後、ヌマンシアへのレンタルやバジャドリーへのフリー移籍を経て、2013年夏に復帰。
ここまでアスレティックでは通算12年過ごし、公式戦321試合に出場し1ゴール13アシストを記録。2度のスーペル・コパ優勝や3度のコパ・デル・レイ準優勝に貢献。近年は出番が限られており、在籍12年目の今季はこれまで公式戦わずか4試合の出場にとどまっていた。
20日の午後にアスレティックのジョン・ウリアルテ会長と記者会見に出席したバレンシアガは、その席で退団に至る経緯を説明した。
｢僕はアスレティックを去ることになった。僕は自分の力を最大限に発揮し、チームメイトが達成したことを手助けしようと努めてきた。しかし、ごまかすつもりはない。最後にカップを獲得したかったが、僕にはこれから何年もあるので落ち着いている。もちろん、アスレティックがカップを持ち上げる姿を見たいとも思っているよ｣
｢この決断はごく自然に下したものであり、監督や クラブと十分に協議した結果だ。選手は、時が来れば引退する方法を知らなければならない。"選手にとって、身を引くべき時を見極めることは重要なことだ。自分自身にもクラブにも正直でありたいと思い、これがアスレティックの選手としての時間を閉じることを決めた理由であり、この12年間のキャリアをとても誇りに思い、満足している｣
｢今考えているのは、この12年間やってきたように、これから1ヶ月半を戦うことだ。我々は皆、欧州カップ戦の出場を目標に念頭に置いている。そのために全力を尽くすと確信しているし、その後についてはその後に話し合うことになる。それが僕の現在の考えのすべてだ。僕は自分の得意なことを続け、レサマに通い、ピッチ内外で日々貢献していくつもりだ｣

バルセロナの公式SNSがチャビ・エルナンデス監督の現役時代のプレーを回顧。スペイン代表MFペドリが見せたプレーと酷似したスキルを公開した。
バルセロナは27日、ラ・リーガ第26節でアスレティック・ビルバオとカンプ・ノウで対戦。先発したペドリは圧巻のプレーを見せつけ、攻守にわたって躍動した。
ゴールにつながる圧巻のサイドチェンジなど随所でファンを沸かせるプレーを見せたペドリだが、最も観客を魅了したのが79分の場面だった。
左サイドでボールを持ったペドリは、相手DFミケル・バレンシアガに寄せられるも、上手く体を使ってボールをキープ。タッチラインを割ってしまいそうになるも、次の瞬間に右足ヒールを使ってバレンシアガを股抜き。完全に相手の意表を突いて、突破した。
バルセロナの公式SNSは試合後、「何という一致だ」と題して、現役時代のチャビ監督がバレンシアとの一戦で同様のプレーをした動画を公開。アスレティック戦のペドリのようにライン際で寄せてくる相手をヒールを使って股抜きするプレーを紹介していた。
2人の比較には、多くのバルセロナファンも反応。「全く一緒だ!」、「ペドリがチャビを超えてくれるよう願う」、「素晴らしいプレーだった」と驚きや期待の声を寄せた。
19歳にしてバルセロナの主力に君臨しているペドリ。チャビ監督からはヴィッセル神戸の元スペイン代表MFアンドレス・イニエスタのようだとも形容されていたが、ここからどのように成長していくのだろうか。

バルセロナのスペイン代表MFペドリが圧巻の活躍を見せている。
まだ19歳のペドリだが、2020-21シーズンは夏のユーロ2020や東京オリンピックにも出場し、驚異の公式戦75試合に出場。今季はケガで長期離脱があったものの、2022年に入り復帰を果たすと、すぐさまチャビ・エルナンデス監督率いるバルサでも欠かせぬ存在となっている。
そのペドリは27日にカンプ・ノウで行われたラ・リーガ第26節のアスレティック・ビルバオ戦にも先発出場すると、攻守に渡って躍動。アスレティックのハイプレスをものともせずに長短交えたパスで相手を翻弄し、チームのリズムを作った。
