アーセナルの黄金期を支えたOBが集結した。
消化試合数に差はありながらも、2位のマンチェスター・シティを8ポイント上回ってプレミアリーグの首位に立つアーセナル。19シーズンぶりの優勝へ向けてひた走っている。
2003-04シーズンに無敗優勝を成し遂げた“インビンシブルズ(無敵の者達)”を率いていたアーセン・ヴェンゲル氏が、プレミアリーグの『Hall of Fame(殿堂入り)』に選ばれるなど、ピッチ外では先んじて明るいニュースが飛び込んで来ている。
クラブOBの1人であるイアン・ライト氏は29日に自身のツイッターやインスタグラムを更新。「若者たちとの素敵な夕食」と綴り、ティエリ・アンリ氏やパトリック・ヴィエラ氏など、そのインビンシブルズを中心としたOB勢とのディナーの様子を公開した。
豪華メンバーの共演にはファンも大興奮。「この写真は10億回のいいねに値する」「完璧なディナーカンパニー」「レジェンド」「なんて写真だ」「なたの一人一人をGOATS。みんな大好き」などの歓声が沸き起っている。
サッカー関係者からも反応が相次ぎ、ライバルクラブ、マンチェスター・ユナイテッドのOBであるデイビッド・ベッカム氏「そこにはいくつもの歴史があります」と綴れば、現アーセナルのFWブカヨ・サカもハートの絵文字で反応している。
総勢11名の中には髪型の変わるなどして、アーセナルファンでも断定に悩むものも。元オーナーであるデイビッド・デイン氏の息子、代理人を務めてるダレン・デイン氏なども同定に困難を極めているようだ。

▽プレミアデビューシーズンで大きなインパクトを残すU-20フランス代表MFマッテオ・グエンドウジのアーセナル行きに貢献した元神童FWが自身の果たした役割に関して振り返った。イギリス『ロンドン・イブニング・スタンダード』が伝えている。
▽今夏、リーグ・ドゥ(フランス2部)のロリアンからアーセナルに加入した19歳のグエンドウジは、プレシーズンの好アピールを経てウナイ・エメリ監督の信頼を獲得すると、ここまでのプレミアリーグ全試合に出場。そして、豊富な運動量と球際の強さ、正確且つ挑戦的な縦パスを武器に印象的なパフォーマンスを披露し、クラブが選ぶ8月のクラブ月間最優秀選手賞まで獲得した。
▽そして、多くのクラブが獲得に動いていた中、アーセナル行きを決めたグエンドウジの移籍は、同選手のロリアンの元同僚でアーセナルOBであるフランス人FWジェレミー・アリアディエールの後押しが大きかったようだ。
▽クレールフォンテーヌ出身で10代の頃に“神童”と評されたアリアディエールは、飛躍が期待されたアーセナルでは思うような活躍ができなかったものの、古巣の優れた育成環境とクラブ愛によってグエンドウジのノースロンドン行きを強く推したようだ。8日に行われたアーセナルvsレアル・マドリーのチャリティーマッチに参加した元神童FWは以下のようなコメントを残している。
「初めて彼に会ったとき、彼に特別なものを感じたよ。そして、彼に対して多くのクラブが関心を示していることも知っていた」
「その時、僕は彼の成長のためにアーセナルが間違いなく最適な場所だと伝えたんだ。より大きなクラブに行くこともできたと思うけど、そういったクラブではなかなかチャンスを得ることができない。だけど、アーセナルは常に若手にチャンスを与えてくれる。だから、彼にとって最適な場所だと思ったんだ」
▽その一方で、アリアディエールはグエンドウジの才能に疑いはないものの、ここまで早い段階でチャンスを得るとは思っていなかったという。
「正直なところ、驚いているよ。彼がアーセナルに加入するのを見届けたけど、ここまで早い段階でスタメンを獲得するとは思っていなかった。個人的に適応には少し時間がかかると思っていたけど、彼はとても自信を持っていたようだね」
「ロリアンで一緒にプレーしていたときから彼には素晴らしい才能があった。それと同時に自分自身に対してとても自信を持っていたんだ」
▽選手としては目に見える形で貢献できなかったアリアディエールだが、今後グエンドウジが順調に成長してアーセナルの絶対的主力になったあかつきにはクラブやサポーターから大いに感謝されることになるはずだ。
