シュツットガルトの日本代表MF遠藤航がチームの初勝利に貢献した。
シュツットガルトは15日、ブンデスリーガ第10節でボーフムをホームに迎えた。
ここまで9試合を戦い5分け4敗と勝利がなく降格圏に沈んでいるシュツットガルト。ペッレグリノ・マタラッツォ監督が解任。ミヒャエル・ヴィマー監督が率いた初陣となった。

シュツットガルトは9日、日本代表MF遠藤航の状態について報告した。
8日、ブンデスリーガ第14節でヘルタ・ベルリンと対戦したシュツットガルト。W杯メンバー入りしているMF遠藤航、DF伊藤洋輝は共に先発出場した。
試合は1-1のまま推移すると77分にアクシデント。遠藤がハイボールを競り合うと、ヘルタ・ベルリンのイバン・シュニッチと頭部同士が激突。遠藤は後頭部を頭突きされるような形となってしまった。
すると、そのまま遠藤は地面に落下。意識を完全に失い、ピッチ上で治療が行われると、意識を取り戻したものの、そのまま担架で運び出されていた。
ミヒャエル・ヴィマー暫定監督は「病院で検査を受けたが、重度の脳震とうの疑いがある」とコメント。スポーツ・ディレクター(SD)のスヴェン・ミスリンタート氏は「何も壊れていないという希望がある。側頭部を打たれただけだ」としていた。
一夜明け、シュツットガルトは遠藤の状態について報告。一晩入院したが、脳震とうによる合併症は引き起こさなかったとのこと。9日中に退院すると報告した。
ただ、今週末のレバークーゼン戦は欠場が確定。カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)前のラストマッチはピッチに立てないが、W杯本大会に出場するかどうかは遠藤の回復次第だとミスリンタート氏はコメントしている。

「意識を失っていたが、私よりもチームは落ち着きを取り戻していた。レバークーゼン戦は、彼にとってはもはや重要ではない」

チームを1部に昇格され、昨シーズンからキャプテンを務めている遠藤。デュエルキングとなった他、最終節でチームを残留に導く劇的ゴールを決めるなど、シュツットガルトにも欠かせない存在。まずは、大きなケガに発展せずに済み、チームも日本代表も一安心といったところだろう。
