U-24ブラジル代表のアンドレ・ジャーディン監督が、東京オリンピックの金メダル獲得を喜んだ。ブラジルサッカー連盟(CBF)が伝えた。
7日、東京オリンピックの男子サッカー決勝が行われ、U-24ブラジル代表はU-24スペイン代表と対戦した。
連覇を目指すブラジルと、金メダル候補に挙げられたスペインの一戦。互いに譲らない中、前半終了間際にマテウス・クーニャのゴールでブラジルが先制。ビハインドで後半を迎えたスペインは、61分にミケル・オヤルサバルが同点ゴールを記録。そのまま延長戦に突入した。
延長に入っても互いに譲らない攻防が続く中、108分に途中投入のマウコムが一瞬の隙を突いてゴール。そのまま逃げ切り、ブラジルが2016年のリオ・デ・ジャネイロ・オリンピックに続いて連覇を達成した。
オリンピックで7個目のメダル、2度目の金メダルを勝ち取ったジャーディン監督は試合後にコメント。連覇を喜び、ブラジルの育成を称賛した。
「我々は彼らの成長を目の当たりにしてきたが、今日、ブラジル代表の選手として、A代表での活躍を目指している彼らの姿を見ることができたのは、プロとしての達成感がある」
「この選手たちを育てた指導者のみんなにおめでとうと言いたい。ブラジルの監督たちは散々叩かれてきた。評価されて然るべきだ」
「我々はとてつもない勝利を挙げ、チャンピオンであり、それはみんなの仕事のおかげだ」
試合についてはスペインも素晴らしいチームだったとコメント。ただ、金メダルを目指す気持ちが結実したことを素直に喜んだ。
「素晴らしい決勝戦であり、相手も素晴らしいチームで対戦するのがとても難しかった。ボールをコントロールし、諦めずに戦った」
「しかし、我々は多くの決意と誇りを持ってチームを作り上げた。いつでも諦めず、本当にこの金メダルが欲しかった」
「彼らの夢、我々の夢が実現でき、ブラジルに2大会連続の金メダルをもたらせたことはとても嬉しい。まだ実感は湧いてこないが、とても幸せだ」

ブラジルサッカー連盟(CBF)は21日、来月の代表ウィークに向けたU-23同国代表メンバーを発表した。
U-23ブラジル代表は10月に国内で2試合の国際親善試合を予定しており、10日にU-23ベネズエラ代表と対戦した後、続く14日にU-23日本代表と相対するスケジュール。いずれの一戦も、東京オリンピック出場権がかかる来年1月の南米予選に向けた実践機会となる。
このカテゴリーのブラジルを率いるアンドレ・ジャーディン監督は今回、23名を呼び、レアル・マドリーのFWロドリゴ・ゴエスや、今夏にバルセロナからゼニトに移籍したFWマウコムを選出。そのほかに関しても日々、欧州を主戦場とする有望株が集結した。
