元アメリカ女子代表の正守護神だったホープ・ソロ(40)が、飲酒運転で逮捕されていたが、有罪を認めた。
かつてはアメリカ代表として活躍。その美貌にも注目が集まり、モデルを務めるなどした人気選手だった。
アメリカ女子代表として2000年から2016年までプレーし、202試合に出場。北京オリンピック、ロンドン・オリンピックでは金メダル獲得に貢献した。
しかし、引退後は問題行動が度々見られ、2014年にシアトル近郊の自宅で親戚2人を襲撃したとして、家庭内暴力の容疑で逮捕。これは後に無罪となっていた。
今年3月には、飲酒運転で逮捕され、車内で双子の息子と意識を失っているところを見つけられ逮捕。児童虐待の容疑もかけられていた。
有罪となったソロは執行猶予付きの懲役24カ月の判決を受け、30日間の活動期間はアルコール依存症の治療のために入院していた期間と相殺されるとのことだ。
イギリス『BBC』は、ソロのコメントを紹介。アルコールにより人生が壊れたと後悔していることを口にしている。
「長い道のりだったけど、少しずつ回復しているわ」
「私は母であることに誇りを持っているし、夫と2歳の双子を抱え、パンデミックの間2年以上にわたって日々過ごしてきた」
「私は誇りに思っているけど、それは信じられないほどに困難であり、大きな間違いを犯してしまったわ」
「アルコールが私の人生で、どれほど破壊的な要素になっているかを甘く見ていたの」
「このように大きな過ちを犯すと、厳しい教訓を早く学ぶことができる。この教訓を学ぶことは難しく、時にはとても苦痛だったわ」
なお、ソロは飲酒運転、逮捕への抵抗、軽度の児童虐待の罪で起訴されたものの、飲酒運転以外は却下されたという。
アメリカサッカー殿堂にも入るほどの選手。4月下旬に延期の要請を出していたが、更生してもらいたいものだ。

サッカー界に衝撃的な事件が起きてしまった。
元アメリカ女子代表の正守護神だったホープ・ソロ(40)が、飲酒運転で逮捕。さらに児童虐待容疑で逮捕された。アメリカ『CNN』が報じた。
アメリカ女子代表として2000年から2016年までプレーし、202試合に出場。北京オリンピック、ロンドン・オリンピックでは金メダル獲得に貢献していた。
警察によると、ソロは子供2人と車内にいる時、市内の企業の駐車場で逮捕したとのこと。ソロは拘留されたが、釈放されているという。
ただ、起訴が近づいているということもあり、警察は事件の詳細については明かさないとのことだ。
ソロは2014年にシアトル近郊の自宅で親戚2人を襲撃したとして、家庭内暴力の容疑で逮捕。しかし、無罪だとして2018年に正式に告訴が取り下げられていた。

全米各地で1日、メジャーリーグ・ベースボール(MLB)の開幕戦が行われた。アメリカ『Bleacher Report』は過去に野球の始球式を務めたサッカー選手を写真で特集。フットボーラーたちのピッチング姿を紹介している。
MLB球団のうち、ダルビッシュ有投手(サンディエゴ・パドレス)や前田健太投手(ミネソタ・ツインズ)らも在籍したロサンゼルス・ドジャースがサッカー選手を始球式に呼ぶことが多く、過去にはFWクリスティアーノ・ロナウドやMFマリオ・ゲッツェらも参加。2019年にはFWキリアン・ムバッペが登場したが、まさかの“サウスポー”だった。
また、かつてイチロー氏が在籍したマイアミ・マーリンズもサッカー選手が務めることが多く、FWラダメル・ファルカオや『Bleacher Report』では紹介されていないが、FWアンヘル・ディ・マリアもマーリンズ・パークのマウンドに立った。
なお、ファルカオは過去のインタビューで「サッカー選手としての現役生活を終えたら、野球選手のプロを目指そうと思っている」と野球への情熱を語っている。
