これまで数多くの名選手を送り出してきたバルセロナのカンテラ。その選手寮としても知られる“ラ・マシア”は122年の歴史を誇る。
かつては、リオネル・メッシやチャビ、アンドレス・イニエスタ、セルヒオ・ブスケッツ、ジェラール・ピケなどに加え、カルレス・プジョール、ジョゼップ・グアルディオラらも育った場所だ。
1702年に建てられ、1979年からは選手寮として使用されている“ラ・マシア”だが、2011年6月30日をもって閉鎖され、32年間の歴史に幕を閉じていた。
その“ラ・マシア”に歴史上初の出来事が起こった。
それは、女子選手が居住するようになるということ。これまでは男子選手しかいなかった“ラ・マシア”に女子選手が仲間入りすることとなった。
今回入寮したのは、バルセロナの女子チームの選手9名。アルバ・カニョ、ベルタ・ドルトラフィル、クラウディア・リウマロ、ユディト・プホルス、ローラ・コロナド、ルシア・コラレス、マルティナ・フェルナンデス、オナ・バラダッド、メリツェル・フォントだ。
ラ・マシア“ミックス”として生まれ変わった寮には、男子サッカー選手が52名、女子サッカー選手9名、バスケットボール選手17名、ハンドボール選手11名、ローラーホッケー選手9名、フットサル選手8名の106名が住むこととなる。
国籍ではカタルーニャ人が54人、その他のスペイン人が36人、ヨーロッパから8人、アフリカから6人、アメリカから2人となっている。
新たな取り組みをスタートさせるバルセロナ。この先、どう展開していくのかが注目されている。

かつてレアル・マドリーで活躍した元スペイン代表GKのイケル・カシージャス氏(41)が、同性愛者であることを告白した。
カシージャス氏は9日、自身の公式ツイッターを通じて、「あなたが私を尊重してくれることを願っています。私はゲイです」と、同性愛者であることを告白した。
この突然の告白に対して、スペイン代表の同僚であるカルレス・プジョール氏らかつての同僚などが、すぐさま支持を表明している。
カシージャス氏は、2009年からスポーツジャーナリストのサラ・カルボネロさんと交際。2013年に長男のマルティンくん、2016年には次男のルーカスくんと2人の子供を儲けた中で2016年に結婚していた。しかし、2021年3月に両者は離婚を発表していた。
その離婚を発表した際には以下のようなメッセージを発表していた。
「サラも私も、僕らが家族であり、一緒に何年も幸せに満ちた愛を分かち合ってきたことを非常に誇りに思っている。今日、カップルとしての僕らの愛について異なる道を歩むことになるが、これまでと同じように献身的な親であり続けるという素晴らしい仕事を一緒に続けるという意味で、遠く離れた道ではない」
「これは、僕らが相互の合意に基づいて下した、熟考された決定だ。尊敬、愛情、友情は永遠に残る。僕らの優先事項は、愛情と歩み寄りを通じて、子供たちの幸福と教育を分かち合い、子供たちを守ることだ。安定した健康的な環境で育てたい」
「これらの言葉で、この変化の瞬間に僕らのプライバシーを尊重していただきますようお願いしたい。これらは、当面および将来的に僕らが発する唯一の公式の言葉になります。ご理解いただきありがとうございます」
カシージャス氏は1999-2000シーズンにマドリーの下部組織からトップチームデビュー。以降、在籍16シーズンで公式戦通算725試に出場し、5度のラ・リーガ制覇や3度のチャンピオンズリーグ(CL)優勝など、18ものタイトル獲得に貢献。
その後、2015年夏にポルトへ活躍の場を移すと、在籍4シーズンで公式戦156試合に出場。2度のリーグ制覇など、ここでもタイトル獲得に貢献した。
また、スペイン代表ではGKとして最多、全体でも歴代2位なる通算167試合に出場。守護神として2010年南アフリカ・ワールドカップ、ユーロ2008、ユーロ2012の連覇を果たしていた。
しかし、2020年に練習中に心臓発作を起こしたこともあり、健康上の問題を理由に現役引退を発表していた。
昨今では世界的にLGBTに対する理解も進む、フットボール界においても自身の性自認及び性的指向を公表するケースが増えているが、カシージャス氏は同性愛者であることを公表した史上最も有名な男性フットボーラーの一人となった。
