イギリスメディア『AlalyticsFC』がWEリーグの若手5選手をピックアップしている。
データを生かしてのコラムを執筆する同サイトは、世界のトップリーグで活躍する岩渕真奈(トッテナム)や長谷川唯(マンチェスター・シティ)、杉田妃和(ポートランド・ソーンズFC)らに加え、今冬にINAC神戸レオネッサからチェルシーへと加入し、ハンマルビーIFへと期限付き移籍した浜野まいかなどを引き合いにだし、「日本はトップクラスの人材を輩出する国としての地位をはっきりと確立している」と述べた。
その中で「日本のWEリーグ、5人のライジングスター」と題し、20歳以下のニューヒロイン候補を紹介。昨年のU-20女子ワールドカップ(W杯)の準優勝メンバーであり、すでになでしこジャパンにも招集されているFW藤野あおば(日テレ・東京ヴェルディベレーザ)やDF石川璃音(三菱重工浦和レッズレディース)に加え、同メンバーからMF吉田莉胡(ちふれASエルフェン埼玉)やFW島田芽依(三菱重工浦和レッズレディース)らに脚光を当てた。
昨季はリーグ戦4ゴール、今季もすでに6得点で得点ランキングトップタイに立つ藤野は、90分換算の平均ゴール関与率は0.84で、ベレーザの最も生産的なアタッカーと称された。
石川は南萌華の移籍や高橋はなの長期離脱の中で浦和Lでの地位を確保。判断力や身体能力、ポジショニングがコア属性で、多少のミスはありながらもそれらを最小限にとどめて同年代のセンターバック陣の中では非常に成長を感じると評されている。
吉田は滑らかなドリブルやクロスが特徴で、ゴール関与率は昨季の0.28から0.43へと上昇。昨季最下位だったEL埼玉は田辺新監督の下でシステムや戦術変更を行い、吉田も最前線やウイングバックと様々なポジションで出場しているため、一人の功績でチーム成績が向上したとは断言できないとしながらも、祐村ひかるとのコンビネーションも冴え、改善に大きく貢献していると紹介されている。
島田もここまでリーグ戦で4ゴール。シュートの正確さやパワー、狭いエリアでの動きが彼女の特徴で、優位性は日本の若いストライカーとしては珍しい資質と称された。
さらにダイヤの原石とうたわれているのが、3月のU-19日本女子代表候補に選出されたノジマステラ神奈川相模原の笹井一愛だ。
[4-3-3]のウイングとして躍動する18歳はトリッキーなドリブルが目を惹く。育成組織ドゥーエからの昇格組ながら今季は12試合中8試合に先発出場し、645分間プレー。ボックス内にも顔を覗かせ、至近距離から3ゴールを決めている。
すでに各クラブでは十分な存在感を示している5選手。今後の活躍だけでなく、動向にも注目が集まりそうだ。

アーセナルのレジェンドでもある元イングランド代表FWのイアン・ライト氏が、1人の女子サッカー選手を救っていた。イギリス『サン』が伝えた。
かつてはアーセナルのエースとして活躍し、288試合で185ゴールを記録。イングランド代表としても活躍したイアン・ライト氏。引退後は解説者などとして活躍する一方で、熱烈な女子サッカーのファンでもある。
自身が所属したアーセナルでもプレーした元なでしこジャパンFW岩渕真奈がお気に入りで、ユニフォームを着用する姿をSNSで投稿するなど、女子サッカーの情報も多く発信していた。
そのライト氏は、2024年4月にとある女子選手の選手生命を救う動きを見せていた。ストーク・シティに所属するFWケイリー・マクドナルドが試合中に負傷。前十字じん帯断裂の重傷を負ったものの、クラブは手術費の負担を拒否するというまさかの事態に発展。マクドナルドは、資金集目に動いていた。
さらに、クラブは2024年末にリハビリに向けた資金提供も停止することに。月額で約1700ポンド(約32万4000円)がかかるとのことだったが、ライト氏が自腹で負担してあげていたという。
マクドナルドはイギリス『テレグラフ』に対し、ライト氏の援助がなければ、今も手術を受けられていないと告白した。
「イアン・ライトがいなければ、私は精神的に良い状態になかったでしょう」
「彼がいなかったら、私はおそらくまだ手術を待っていたでしょう」
「彼が知らない私のためにこんなことをしてくれたことは、もっと注目されても良いと思う」
特に接点があった訳でもないというライト氏とマクドナルド。そのライト氏は、元イングランド女子代表選手でもあったエニ・アルコ氏から、放送界で女性のチャンスを妨げていると批判されていたが、ピッチ外では誰よりも女子選手をサポートしていることが明るみに出ることとなった。
ライト氏は、2023年にはバークレイズと提携し、草の根レベルで女性コーチの数を増やすための取り組みであるイアン・ライト・コーチング・ファンドの設立を支援。1万5000ポンド(約285万円)を寄付し、664人の女性指導者のレベル1トレーニングコースの受講料を支払ったという。

なでしこジャパンのメンバーも日本代表を応援していたようだ。
1日、カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)のグループE最終節でスペインと対戦した日本。試合は前半にアルバロ・モラタにゴールを許し先手を与えたが、堂安律と三笘薫を投入した後半に攻勢を仕掛け、堂安と田中碧のゴールで一気に逆転。グループリーグ突破とともに望外の首位通過を達成した。
初戦のドイツ代表戦に続く見事な逆転勝利を飾った日本だが、その裏にはなでしこからの心を込めた応援もあったようだ。
アーセナルのFW岩渕真奈は試合後に自身のツイッターを更新。「みんなで応援してました 最高!!!」とウエストハムのDF清水梨紗とMF林穂之香ともに日本代表のユニフォームに袖を通して応援する3ショットを公開している。
さらに日本の躍動に興奮したのか、「付け加えました ロンドン冨安応援団笑」と綴り、3人の額に「LOVE TOMI YASU」とフェイスペイントを施し、同じアーセナルの男子チームに所属するDF冨安健洋を全力で応援する姿まで披露した。
ロンドン冨安応援団には、ファンからも「トミーモテモテで草」、「冨安がうらやましいぞ」、「かわいすぎる」、「ずるいっすね」といった冨安への羨望の反応が集まった。
だが、日本代表を応援していたのはロンドン組だけではなかったようで、今夏にウエストハムからマンチェスター・シティに移籍したMF長谷川唯も「ロンドンに限定しないでください マンチェスターでも冨安応援しております」とアピール。ただ、岩渕は「ペイントしてから述べよ」と厳しめだった。

アディダスは25日、日本代表の2020アウェイユニフォームを発表した。
このアウェイユニフォームは3月に発売予定だったものの、発売が延期に。今回満を持して発表となった。
今回のアウェイユニフォームは、ホームユニフォームで採用されているスカイコラージュを用いて、迷いのない澄み切った心模様がひとつにつながっていく様を、濃度の違うホワイトで表現。ひとりひとりの選手やサポーターが見てきた空と心模様がひとつになることで、雲ひとつない希望の空に向かっていく『日本晴れ(ニッポンバレ)』のコンセプトが完結する。
また、選手名と背番号、脇のスリーストライプスは黑、袖はリブ仕立て、襟は着た際に立ち上がるVネックを採用することで、洗練されたスタイリッシュなデザインを追求。また、赤のソックスを用いて、みなぎる闘志を表現している。
さらに、2014年モデルの「円陣」をコンセプトとしたユニフォーム以来の、ホーム・アウェイが連動したデザインとなり。また、アンビグラム作家・野村一晟氏とコラボレーションして開発した、コンセプトである『日本晴れ』の文字をひっくり返して読むと、「侍魂」「撫子魂」の文字が浮き上がるサインオフも、ホームユニフォーム同様採用してい流とのことだ。
今回のアウェイユニフォームについて、南野拓実は「ホームユニフォームでは明るい空のイメージが出ていて、一方のアウェイでは、美しい日本のイメージが表現されていると思います。この日本らしいホームとアウェイのユニフォームでワールドカップ出場を決めたいと思います」とコメント。また、原口元気は「前面の柄がホームと同じで、コンセプトがつながっている点に好感が持てました。これを着てワールドカップ出場権を獲得して、その先でも良い結果を得られるように頑張りますので、応援よろしくお願いします」とコメントした。
また、なでしこジャパンの岩渕真奈は「白の上下に赤のソックスで、シンプルなデザインでいいなと思いました。サッカーを始めた時のような、真っ白な純粋な気持ちを持って、このアウェイユニフォームを着て楽しんでプレーをしたいと思います」とコメントしている。
アウェイユニフォームは、アディダスオンラインショップ、アディダス直営店、サッカーショップ KAMO にて、2020年8月25日(火)17:00より先行発売を開始し、全国の取扱店にて、9月1日(火)0時より発売される。価格はオーセンティックが1万4,000円(税抜)、レプリカが8,990円(税抜)となっている。

なでしこジャパンのDF熊谷紗希が大仕事をやってのけた。
17日、女子チャンピオンズリーグ(WCL)グループD第4節でバイエルンはリヨンをホームに迎えた。
熊谷にとっての古巣戦。10日に行われたアウェイでの試合では、1-2と逆転負けを喫していたが、ホームゲームでも熊谷は先発出場を果たす。
試合はバイエルンが押し込む展開を見せる中、リヨンの粘りの守備の前になかなかゴールを奪えない。しかし、ゴールレスで迎えた69分、バイエルンは右CKを獲得すると、キャロライン・サイモンがゴール前に左足でクロス。これをボックス内で熊谷がヘッド。これがネットを揺らし、バイエルンが先制。熊谷にとっての古巣ゴールが決勝点となり、バイエルンが1-0で勝利を収めた。
熊谷はこの試合のマン・オブ・ザ・マッチに選出。『UEFA.com』で喜びを語った。
「私は嬉しいです。試合は簡単ではなかったですが勝ちました。チームを助けることができて、ゴールを決められてとても嬉しいです」
