31日、日本代表はアジアカップ2023のラウンド16でバーレーン代表と対戦する。
過去の対戦成績は日本の8勝2敗となっているが、アジアカップの舞台で最後に対戦したのは2004年の中国大会での準決勝。記憶に残る激闘だった。
MF小野伸二、FW高原直泰ら当時の主力選手が欠場していた当時の日本は、開催国の中国サポーターにブーイングを浴びせられながらも決勝トーナメントに進出すると、準々決勝ではPK戦途中でのサイド変更とGK川口能活の神がかり的なセーブが印象深いヨルダン代表戦に勝利し、準決勝でバーレーンと対戦した。
しかし、バーレーン戦では開始6分に先制ゴールを許すと、40分にはMF遠藤保仁が不可解な判定で一発退場。日本はビハインドの状況で数的不利を負ってしまった。
数的不利の状況でもMF中田浩二とFW玉田圭司のゴールで逆転した日本だったが、その後2失点。2-3と1点ビハインドで試合終盤を迎えた。
それでも日本は最後まで諦めず。DFも攻めあがって同点ゴールを狙うと、90分にDF中澤佑二が値千金の同点ゴール。不屈の精神で同点に追いつくと、延長前半には玉田の独走ゴールが決まり、4-3で激闘を制していた。
なんとか決勝に進出した日本は、決勝で中国代表を撃破。見事に大会連覇を成し遂げていた。
久しぶりの対戦を前に『DAZN』は当時の試合映像をプレイバック。SNS上のファンも「このゴールで中澤佑二に惚れた」、「バーレーン戦といえばこの試合よな」、「痺れたね、玉田」、「まさに「死闘」ってカンジだった!」、「2004の大会は激熱だった」と当時を思い返している。
ベスト8を懸けた一戦は、31日の20時30分にキックオフ。『DAZN』で視聴が可能だ。

世界的に有名な元ポルノ女優のミア・ハリファさん。現在は引退しており、インフルエンサーとして活躍しているが、実は大のサッカーファンとしても知られている。
現在29歳のミアさんは、スポーツ好きであり、特にサッカーがお気に入り。レバノン出身で、8歳の時に不安定な国内情勢の影響でアメリカへ家族と共に亡命していた。
世界的にも人気を博したミアさんはウェストハムのファンであることを公言。プレミアリーグのドリームチームを自身で組むなど、サッカーへの愛が非常に強いことでも知られている。
そのミアさんはYouTubeチャンネルの『AFTV』に出演。自身のお気に入りの現役選手3名を選ぶという企画に参加した。
しかし、ミアさんは現役選手ではなく、かつてマンチェスター・ユナイテッドでプレーし、イングランド代表のレジェンドでもあるデイビッド・ベッカムをまず挙げることに。「私は女性なのでベックスと言わざるを得ないわ」とコメント。理由が実に斬新で「12歳の時の私よりも高い声で彼が話すのを聞く度に、いつも笑わせてもらうわ。とても楽しいの」と、ベッカムの高い声がどうやらお気に入りらしい。
そして2人目に挙げたのがこれまた現役選手ではなく、ユベントスやレアル・マドリーで活躍し、フランス代表のレジェンドでもあるジネディーヌ・ジダンをピックアップした。
ジダンを選んだ理由については「ジネディーヌ・ジダンはサッカーを見てきた中で、最もエキサイティングだった」と、こちらは真面目にサッカー面でお気に入りの選手とのこと。ただ「私は暴力的なものが好きだけど、サッカーはバタバタしていて嫌になるわ。でもヘッドバッドは史上最高の瞬間だったわね」と、2006年のドイツW杯決勝でジダンがイタリア代表DFマルコ・マテラッツィに見舞った頭突きがお気に入りだという。
そして3人目に挙げたのが現役選手。唯一選ばれた現役選手はセルティックに所属し、カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)にも出場したオーストラリア代表MFアーロン・モーイだ。
日本代表FW前田大然、MF旗手怜央、FW古橋亨梧、MF井手口陽介とチームメイトとして今シーズンプレー。かつてはウェスタン・シドニー・ワンダラーズでMF小野伸二(北海道コンサドーレ札幌)共プレーしたことがある。
モーイを選んだ理由については、「フットボール界のカワイ・レナードのようなものね」と語り、NBAのロサンゼルス・クリッパーズに所属するバスケットボールプレーヤーに例え、「モーイはレナードのように行動する。カメラは苦手だし、ちょっとおっちょこちょいだけど、それを感じさせないわ」と語り、「わからないけど、彼を思い出すの。カワイ・レナードは良い男よ」と、またしても独特な理由で選出していた。

フェイエノールトとアヤックスの“デ・クラシケル”が行われた中、レジェンドが集結。元日本代表MF小野伸二氏も現地に登場し、歓迎を受けた。
7日、エールディビジ第29節でフェイエノールトはホームにアヤックスを迎えた。
日本代表FW上田綺世はベンチスタートとなった試合。その試合前には小野氏が本拠地“デ・カイプ”に登場した。
小野は浦和レッズから加入した2001-02シーズンにいきなりレギュラーとなると、UEFAカップ(現:ヨーロッパリーグ)で見事に優勝。オランダ代表FWピエール・ファン・ホーイ・ドンク、デンマーク代表FWヨン・ダール・トマソンらと共に、チームの中心として活躍した。
小野氏はアヤックス戦を前にUEFAカップのトロフィーを掲げる写真が投稿された中、試合会場にも登場。そこには、当時のチームメイトであるファン・ホーイ・ドンク氏が笑顔で出迎えることとなった。
また、スタンドには鉢巻を巻いた小野をモチーフにした弾幕も登場。現役を引退し、レジェンドとして歓迎を受けることとなった。
ファンは「懐かしい2ショット!」、「ファン・ホーイ・ドンクがいる」、「この再会は熱い」、「これはエモいわ」、「トマソンも欲しい」とコメントが集まり、懐かしさを感じる再会となった。
なお、試合はフェイエノールトの攻撃陣が爆発。前後半それぞれ3点ずつを奪い、6-0で圧勝する結果となった。

鹿島アントラーズの元日本代表DF内田篤人(32)が現役引退を決断した。
23日の明治安田生命J1リーグ第12節のガンバ大阪戦がラストマッチとなり、31日にで鹿島との契約が満了。スパイクを脱ぐこととなる。
内田と言えば、鹿島とともに忘れてならないのがシャルケでの活躍だろう。“ウッシー”の愛称でも親しまれ、右サイドバックのレギュラーとして長らくプレー。元スペイン代表FWラウール・ゴンサレスや元オランダ代表FWクラース・ヤン・フンテラール、ドイツ代表GKマヌエル・ノイアー(現バイエルン)などワールドクラスの選手ともチームメイトとしてプレーした。
シャルケでは公式戦通算153試合に出場し2ゴール18アシストを記録した内田。DFBポカールのタイトルのみとなったが、最高峰の舞台であるチャンピオンズリーグ(CL)では誇るべき成績を残している。
日本人としてチャンピオンズリーグに出場したことがあるのは19名。内田は29試合の出場で日本人歴代2位の出場試合数を記録しているが、プレーイングタイムでは1位の成績を残している。
内田は29試合で2418分間プレー。1ゴール2アシストを記録した。2位はドルトムントとマンチェスター・ユナイテッドで出場したMF香川真司(レアル・サラゴサ)で2286分(33試合)となっている。
また2010-11シーズンのCL準々決勝ではインテルと対戦し、長友佑都との日本人対決も実現していた。
ヒザのケガとの戦いもあった中でのこの記録はいずれ抜かれる可能性はあるが、偉大な功績と言えるだろう。

北海道コンサドーレ札幌の元日本代表MF小野伸二が、トレーニング映像を公開した。
FC琉球から2021年に札幌へと復帰した小野。明治安田生命J1リーグでは4試合に出場した。
その小野は、オフに入りディズニー・ランド、ディズニー・シーを楽しむ写真を投稿するなど、束の間の休息を楽しんだようだが、今回は新シーズンに向けた自主トレーニングの様子をアップした。
砂浜で走る小野。長女の夏蓮さんとともにトレーニングに励んでいる。砂浜をダッシュするトレーニングはかなりキツそうだが、話題を呼んだのが2つ目の動画。
夏蓮さんと小野がリフティング対決をしているもの。小野テクニックは誰しもが知るところだが、夏蓮さんもかなりの腕前。さすが小野の娘と言えるだろうか、驚きのリフティング能力の高さだ。
これには鈴木武蔵(ベールスホット)は「リフティング対決娘さんに負けますねこれ」とコメント。今季から浦和レッズに加入した犬飼智也は「うま。。。」と驚きの様子。ファンからも称賛のコメントが相次いぎ「さすが小野さんの娘さん」、「リフティング凄い」、「娘ちゃんリフティングうめー」と驚きの声があがっている。
気持ちをリフレッシュしながらもトレーニングを積んでいる小野。新シーズンの活躍にも期待が集まる。
