W杯2連覇の米女子代表ジル・エリス監督が退任

アメリカ女子代表は30日、ジル・エリス監督(52)が10月退任することを発表した。

ジル・エリス監督は2014年5月にアメリカ女子代表の監督に就任。それまでは同チームのアシスタントコーチやU-20とU-21のアメリカ女子代表を歴任してきた。

米女子代表監督の正式就任以前に2回ほど暫定監督を務めたエリス監督は、翌年のワールドカップでは決勝で日本を5-2で下し、就任から13カ月で世界一に。FIFA(国際サッカー連盟)が認めるその年の女子年間最優秀監督に選ばれた。さらに今夏にフランスで行われた同大会でも決勝でオランダを下し、2連覇を達成した。

エリス監督は在任期間5年半で、102勝18分け7敗という史上最多キャップと勝利数を誇る。「変化は私の人生で常に受け入れられてきたものであり、私や家族にとって適切なタイミング」と語り、大きな感謝の意を示した。

かつて日本を苦しめたアメリカ女子代表FWアレックス・モーガンが新規参入チームへ電撃移籍「スタートが待ちきれない」

FIFA、今月末にW杯開催を含めた国際試合のカレンダーを議論

国際サッカー連盟(FIFA)は、9月30日にオンラインサミットを開催。男女の国際試合のカレンダーについての議論を行うと発表した。予てから噂されているワールドカップ(W杯)の開催間隔に関してもこのサミットで議論されるとのことだ。現在のサッカー界で大きな話題となっているのが、W杯の開催年に関する問題。現行は4年に1度の開催となっているが、これを2年に1度の開催にしようという動きが起きている。このプランは、今年5月にサウジアラビアが初めて提案した構想。国際サッカー連盟(FIFA)もこれに賛同し、元選手であるマイケル・オーウェンやヤヤ・トゥーレなどを起用して支持を表明し、ジャンニ・インファンティーノ会長は実現可能性を探っている段階だ。一方で、欧州サッカー連盟(UEFA)のアレクサンデル・チェフェリン会長は猛反対。また、南米サッカー連盟(CONMEBOL)は反対。サウジアラビアも加盟するアジアサッカー連盟(AFC)は賛成と、意見が大きく分かれている状況だ。 FIFAによれば、現在使われている国際サッカーのカレンダーに関して、女子は2023年の終わりまで、男子は2024年に終わることになっており、その先の議論が行われることになる。男子のW杯は、現在予選が行われているカタールで2022年11月に開催。その後、2026年にカナダ、アメリカ、メキシコの3カ国共催という点まで決定している。一方の女子は、2023年にオーストラリアとニュージーランドでの共催が決定。その後は未定となっている。なお、この国際カレンダーを検討するテクニカルアドバイザリーグループは、元アーセナル指揮官のアーセン・ヴェンゲル氏とアメリカ女子代表を率いて2度の女子W杯を制したジル・エリス氏が率いるという。また今後、オープンな状況で様々な議論を行って決定していくこととなり、ファンを含む利害関係者とも議論を行うとのこと。FIFAが行った調査では、ファンは現状維持を望んでいるという声が多いようだが、果たしてどんな結末を迎えるだろうか。 2021.09.20 22:10 Mon

“勝率93.8%”女子W杯連覇のアメリカ女子代表、ジル・エリス監督が退任

アメリカ&メキシコが2027年の女子W杯招致を撤回…2031年をターゲットに「記録的な大会を開催する」

アメリカサッカー連盟とメキシコサッカー連盟は30日、2027年の女子ワールドカップ(W杯)の招致に関して、立候補を取り下げることを発表した。なお、2031年のW杯招致に動くという。 2023年にオーストラリアとニュージーランドの共催で行われ、スペイン女子代表が初優勝を果たしていた。 2026年にはアメリカ、メキシコ、カナダの共催で男子のW杯が開催。32チームから48チームに出場国が拡大して行われる。その翌年に女子W杯を開催しようとしていたが、今回は立候補を撤回。代わりに、2031年の女子W杯を男子と同等の投資をして開催を目指すと発表した。「今回の修正された入札により、2026年の男子W杯の教訓と成功を踏まえ、さらに開催都市への支援を強化し、パートナーシップやメディア契約を拡大。さらにファンとの交流を深め、2031年に記録破りの大会を開催できるようにします」なお、今回のアメリカ&メキシコの撤退により、残る開催地候補は、ブラジルかドイツ、ベルギー、オランダの共催の2つに絞られることとなった。開催地は5月17日にタイのバンコクで開催されるFIFA総会で開催国が選定される。 2024.04.30 20:25 Tue

元アメリカ女子代表アシスタントコーチで、現オレゴン大学女子サッカー部の監督を務めるグレアム・アベル氏に、ハラスメント疑惑が浮上している。アメリカ『オレゴニアン』が伝えている。アベル氏は2015年、2019年と、アメリカの女子ワールドカップ(W杯)連覇を支え、2020年から同職に就いた。大学では新型コロナウイルスの影響から解かれた2021年が9勝4敗6分、2022年が4勝8敗7分という成績に終わり、昨年は0勝16敗3分の未勝利に。今季前には12人の選手が卒業や転校でチームを離れることとなった。これは名簿の41%を占め、全米大学体育協会(NCAA)の調べで2022年に移籍ポータルに入った同カテゴリーの学生がわずか13%だったことを考えると、異例の数字と言える。同紙は過去に在籍していた14人の元選手にインタビューを実施。匿名ながらうち12人が詳細を語り、全員がアベル氏から暴言を受けたと述べた。この中には前述の今季移籍組6人が含まれているとのことだ。「彼はスタッフ全員をロッカールームから遠ざけたあと、ゴミ箱を蹴り、ホワイトボードを投げ、ゴミ箱の上に座って叫び始めました。試合でどのようなミスしたのかを教えて欲しいと思い、私と別の選手がそう伝えたのですが、彼は『きみたちはダメだ』と罵るだけでした」複数の選手によると、試合後のアベル氏の暴挙には、物を投げる行為も含まれており、危うく選手2人の頭に水筒が当たりそうなったこともあったという。練習では間違ったタッチやミスと認識されると、強い言葉を投げかけられ、練習全体から外されることもあったようだ。「彼は機会を与えてくれたのに、私はそれを無駄にしていると思っていました。けど、シーズンが終わってみると、シーズンを通して自分にどれほどの負担がかかっていたかが分かりました」一方、別の選手は全体的にポジティブな経験を詳しく述べ、「普通のコーチング」だったと説明。2019年当時は代表選手のDFベッキー・サワーブランも「素晴らしい関係性」だったと述べており、見解には相違が見られる。また、アベル氏も「私はコーチングの一環として脅迫的な発言や経済的影響を一度も使ったことはありません」と否定。大学側も、選手からの苦情を受けてシーズン後に見直した結果、アベル氏からの暴言や大学側の措置が必要となるような問題の証拠は見つからなかったと、独自の書面で声明を出している。熱量、言葉の選び方や伝達方法は指導者にとっての難しい側面だが、受け手が精神的苦痛を感じるようであれば、改める必要がある。なお、アベル氏は今年が5年契約の最終年となっている。 2024.04.17 22:45 Wed
